I listened to the Blu-Ray version with very good quality headphones. I'm assuming that the song has to do with Steven's dislike of religion and this song explains why it's dangerous. He's an Atheist, but this song may also tell the stories of the local tales that he heard while living in Mexico. "You betray your thoughts" means that the person didn't listen to their reason. "All your prayers to naught" means that the person's prayers were meaningless and didn't make any difference, most likely due to ignoring their reasoning. I'm most likely wrong, but "now out of death.." means because of the anxiety of dying, you cling to your religion and try to save others. Also, they sound exhausted due to spreading the stories that they were told to tell. "And your dream absolves" seems to indicate that a priest had to give the sacrament of penance for them continuing to dream about a different future, indicated by Christian theology of 'absolution'. "And your path dissolve" may indicate that the person has lost their way because they followed a religion without thinking. |

It seems like this song is about a girl that is with a guy that doesn't treat her well and she's pretending that she's fine. "She licks the blood off of her teeth and says she'll stay because it's easier that way." That seems like she's being abused but she's not willing to change. This is just my interpretation. It could be completely wrong. |
