The Fray – Enough For Now Lyrics 14 years ago
I think this song is actually to his grandmother. When it says "left my mother's mother without so much as a kiss" it's saying he died without ever showing his daughter -not wife- or giving any signs that he loved her. The whole song is about the dads daughter, not about his wife so i don't think at the bridge of the song he would've suddenly brought in his wife.

It doesn't really seem like it would make sense anyways. Because obviously he loved his wife or else he wouldn't have stayed with her for all those years when he wanted a son. And he died. He loved his wife at some point at least, and obviously kissed her at sometime.

The Fray – How To Save A Life Lyrics 14 years ago
When hearing this i always thought this was a song about a girlfriend and a boyfriend. She tries to talk to him she's looking at the "window for opportunity" on the right but he's going away from it to the left. Then they start blaming each other and she begins to wonder why she said anything. She's telling him what she thinks is best for the relationship. She trying to not strike his defense but she doesn't want him to think what he's doing is okay. She tells him what is wrong and hopes he understands. Eventually it escalates to yelling and in the middle of it she decides to stop fighting and get to the point. She gives him a choice. "Drive until you loose the road" Keep the relationship going as long as they can. or "Break with the ones you follow" Break the their relationship, the road they'd been following. He'll either keep it going and admit to everything or he'll break the relationship by saying he's not the same person he used to be when they met and refuse to change. And obviously he breaks the relationship. For the refrain it's one of the girls friends talking and saying his friend (girl) was so disappointed that she committed suicide. If he had known that the break up was so difficult for her he would've stayed there to comfort her all night.

Obviously though, now i realize it's about a drug addict.

But i don't think that the message is really about the addict. The inspiration was because of the addict but not the message. The message is how fighting tears relationships apart and compromise is a better route. "I lost a friend somewhere along in the bitterness."
