| Arctic Monkeys – Who the Fuck Are Arctic Monkeys? Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Robbro7... You may be wondering why I am replying to your post 6 years late but I thought in fact that I could point out that everything you got from that article has been proved completely false. 1) The Arctic Monkeys are a real band and most definitely NOT a scam. 2) MySpace - Despite the suggestions of the Arctic Monkeys being created to help line the pockets of Murdoch's MySpace, it is clear that MySpace was wiped out by its social network rivals, first of all Bebo and then of course Facebook and Twitter. The Monkeys only endorsed MySpace because it streamed their music directly to the audience for free just like almost EVERY artist did at that time. 3) Top of the Pops - That point brings me nicely into why the Monkeys didn't go on Top of the Pops. They didn't go on not because they had to be joined by many washed up pop stars, nor the fact they would have to have mimed but it is because AM's have always tried to keep a low profile, a silent confidence that goes with their albums and EP's which has been a trait throughout their career. Appearing on Top of the Pops each week would have made them just like everyone else, which is not in the AM's appeal at all. 4) The 'Artificial' Monkeys - The most ridiculous conclusion made by the article was the Laurence Bell being the creative source of the Monkeys. What a load of rubbish, Domino were mostly involved with Stateside indie rock before, most of the songs for AM's first album was demoed before the record deal and plus Laurence Bell only signs bands he like, not ones he wants to make money from otherwise he would have been a fucking millionaire like the bosses at Sony, EMI ect. What your comment was back all those years ago is plain black and white arrogance. You could have just said they were shit and that's fine. But to claim their credibility and most importantly, their history is 'artificial' and 'fake' when the Monkeys inspired a whole generation makes you the biggest wanker going. |

| Sex Pistols – Bodies Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Looking at the lyrics, Bodies looks like a song that is against abortion suggested through some of the lyrics like 'She was a no-one who killed her baby' and 'I'm not a discharge, I'm not a loss in protein'. Analysing 'Pauline' as a no-one who is insane and lives in a tree almost suggests that women like Pauline are those who go for messy abortions ('Gurgling bloody mess') and cause the 'murder of human beings before they are even born'. However, it can't be that simple because this is the Sex Pistols. There is no way would they have shared the same attitude with the Christian church towards abortion; it would've made them sound hypocritical. The fact that the abortion is described as messy and performed in a 'factory' is surprising because in the 70's abortion was legal so people didn't have to do it away from a surgery. In fact I think the Pistols didn't really care if abortion was legal or not; the messiness of the abortion just shows how life generally can be a grim place and it is to piss off the establishment. Overall, the latter is what the Pistols did the best. Amazing album. |

| The Vaccines – All In White Lyrics | 14 years ago |
If I was to interview the Vaccines one of my questions would be what is the meaning behind these lyrics because All in White is my favourite Vaccines song... Out of the whole album, these were the lyrics that interested me the most. At first they seem random but with what I saw above in respect to Justin Young's comments about the song, I've been drawing some connections. I think the song is about a girl that Young loved but she was in a relationship with one of his friends and he is very jealous of this guy. In the first verse, the lyrics breaking him at the '37th hour' and 'show me all of your power' relate to the girl being very beautiful. "I will watch you rise on my back from the ground Friend or foe? I don't know Do you like what you've found?" I think this part of the verse that is repeated throughout relates to the friend who is in the relationship. The friend is rising above Young to get this girl as if it is some sort of competition and the friend has almost cheated using Young's back to win her. Of course, this is all how he sees it and not what really happens suggesting envy towards his friend. It also leaves Young to question whether the guy is a 'Friend or foe' but he doesn't know. In terms of the chorus, I think Young is judging himself a little. He wants to be thrown low quotations, to find a solution to his problem and lose the feelings he has. But he sees the girl again and the feelings swamp him once more and the reference to 'All in White' suggests that Young continues to see this girl as a sort of angel, when really deep down he knows that she's a bit of a whore. |
