| Mary Poppins – A Spoonful Of Sugar Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Does anyone else think the refrain matches up well with "The Imperial March" from Star Wars? | |
| Tally Hall – & Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This seems to encapsulate the overarching theme of the whole album: there is no such thing as duality without unity. Of course, some of the songs are a little sillier, but this has been their most serious release to date. | |
| Squirrel Nut Zippers – The Suits Are Picking Up The Bill Lyrics | 13 years ago |

I hadn't thought about that angle, you must be a very devious person ;) But "I've been feeling down, since the suits got back in town" makes me think there is a more permanent relationship with the suits. I do like your interpretation, though, and would also like to participate in that little bit of... um... "social engineering" with these guys! |

FWIW, I think this is the Zipper's comment on the music biz. Most pro musicians are broke as heck, but when you get picked up by a lable, the biz dudes ("Suits" being an anachronistic slang for "business person") pay your expenses. But they still want to hang out and party with the band. In the end, the narrator expresses remorse that, though they've been burned in the past and now they have carte blanche, he misses the old days (possibly because he and his friends are overdoing it, or because they need the Suits in order to do it). Otherwise, it about business dudes who want to party with these guys and basically buy their friendship. YMMV Best modern swing band EVER. Very raw and authentic, these guys are the punk rockers of swing. I never get tired of them, and am glad they're still around, even if it does seem take ages between album releases. |

"As quiet as a mouse," not "quite." Also second refrain (and subsequent refrains) is "All I wanna be, oh All I wanna be is everything Everything at once" |

| Chicago – Saturday In The Park Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Some lyrics are definitely missing. After "A man selling ice-cream," there should be "Singing Italian songs," followed by some nonsense Chicago thought was Italian-sounding (let's give them the benefit of the doubt, and call it "scat.") Also, it's "Another day" halfway through, not "Saturday." | |

| Big Bad Voodoo Daddy – Minnie the Moocher Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I have no idea about the King of Sweden, I think maybe she was in a drug induced dream? Missing significant number of verses from the original. Should end like this (following "...a million times" and the "hi de hi" bit after): Now Min and Smokie, they started jaggin' (binging) They got a free ride in a wagon (paddy wagon/got arrested) She gave him money to pay her bail () But he left her flat in the county jail () Whoooa, yeaaaah Hey de he de he he Whoa Whoa Poor Min met old Deacon Lowdown () He preached to her that she ought to slow down () But Minnie wiggled her jelly roll (made sexual advances) And Deacon Lowdown yelled, "Lord save my soul!" (they were quite effective) Hi de hi de hi de hi Ho de ho de ho de ho Skiddley doodley doodly do Skiddly diddly day They took her where they put the crazies (she was institutionalized) Now poor Min's kicking up those daisies (she died) You've heard my story this is her song () She was just a good gal, but they done her wrong (society had no way to deal with an addict who was also a basically good person) Hi de hi de hi de hi Skooby de be do He de he de he de he Whoa, Whoa Whoa Poor Min, Poor Min, Poor Min. |

| Gnarls Barkley – Whatever Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I don't think Gnarls Barkley's "mocking" anyone. It has a real messy punk vibe to it, and is expressing the fierceness, loneliness, and feeling of displacement that many angry young men experience. Green's voice is nasally and raw, and the rhythm and arrangement is, for lack of a better word, "stomp-y." This epitomizes the whole punk genre. Also, emo tends to be much more weepy: emo says "pity me," as opposed to punk: "life sucks, go f*ck yourself" (as this song pretty much literally says). It's true the protagonist is wallowing in self-pity, but he still reacts fiercely to his perceived wrongs (admittedly, he IS a bit passive-aggressive). Gnarls Barkley has shown an appreciation for this before, with covering "Gone Daddy Gone" by The Violent Femmes, and this song has a "Blister in the Sun" vibe of jealousy, remorse, anger, and angst. I think they are actively trying to reconcile different genres of music (in this case, and with "Gone," punk, soul, and hip-hop) and I would be surprised if something like this didn't show up in the future from either Cee Lo or Danger Mouse (hopefully from Gnarls!) |

I don't see it. I mean, at all. Not even a smidge. skansrv, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but please elaborate on the parallels. You've made me intensely curious. |

| The Pogues – If I Should Fall From Grace With God Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Great song, but what the f**k was Subaru thinking when they chose this for the "Forester" commercial?!?! Yes, it *sounds* like a happy, gleeful song, but the lyrics are all about death and oppression. Just goes to show the deep disconnection between advertisers and reality. | |
| OK Go – End Love Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I agree with StarDrops21, and it fits one of the overarching themes from the album: "You need to be bold, unafraid." "White Knuckles," "End Love," and "This Too Shall Pass," all are about letting go of fear of failure and past mistakes or hardships, and embracing who you are, and doing what you know you need to do. True, "End Love" is written to a lover to whom the narrator is speaking to, and many of the other songs on "OtBCotS" (what a cruddy acronym) are basically love songs, but I think the album was a departure from most pop interweb bands with their focus on songs like this: the message being "You can Be Awesome." |

| Hard N Phirm – Moose Lodge Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
"Family, fraternity, if any, a community for It's at the moose lodge" is wrong It should should be: "Family, fraternity, if any, a community in four nations (stanza) It's at the moose lodge" Also, "A working status or forefeiture" should be "applicant status or forfeiture" and "Twenty-five million strong" is clearly "one-point-five million strong" |
