| Actually a polar bear is exactly what he isn't, and wishes he was. In the middle of the song, she makes him feel like he could be a polar bear. But it ends up going back to being impossible in the end. Also, I'm not sure I would consider him tedious and boring. Though he could be restrained especially before meeting her... | |

| Actually it wasn't most of the comments that I disagree with, just that there were a couple saying it was about Siouxie, so it seem like the majority at the time I was typing. I also would like to mention that I merely disagree, and ain't bashin' them or that theory, which could still be true, as it can't be disproven. I also wish I could edit these posts... | |
| The Cure – Why Can't I Be You? Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Yeah, some of us have considered that, but this song is first and foremost admiration, and/or lust, for feminine beauty and style, and the gender curiosity aspect of the theme is secondary... Although that part could also be envy of her, and also women's, desirablity. So I guess he, the guy in the song, or even Smith himself, also could have wanted to be a woman out of envy of women being the ones who are pursued, rather than usually having to do the pursuing, the "run around in circles 'til I run out of breath," that guys often have to do if they don't got a whole lot of 'game'. |

I agree with Fleaaaaaa's initial post, but at the same time, I wonder about the line, "A witchhunt for another girl." and that the songs goes from "Say goodbye on a night like this," to "Say hello on a day like today," makes me think it could also be him moving on to another girl. Viewed that way, lines like, "The way you look at me now, makes me wish I was you." Go from her being over it and him wishing he didn't still long for her, to meaning the new girl is in love with him, and he wishes he could be that kind of person (more innocent, and honest/loyal, if cutting the previous girls trust means he cheated). I wonder whether or not this could be a valid alternative meaning to the song, although Fleaaaaaa's explanation is still most likely the main meaning to the song either way. |

I kind of disagree with most of the comments. You're forgeting about his perspective and response to her advances; "Please leave me alone. Please go. It doesn't touch me at all. It doesn't touch me at all." She maybe offering, but he isn't interested. She comes across as shallow and insincere to him. And I doubt the she in this song is Siouxie, or anyone particular individual. Also, Wendy's personality kind of seems like; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Histrionic_personality_disorder . |
