The Beatles – While My Guitar Gently Weeps Lyrics 14 years ago
This is the song where I think George Harrison surpasses John Lennon and Paul McCartney as the most talented Beatle. The Lennon-McCartney song writing duo is more well known (and was hardly a duo post '64), but George Harrison's 68-70 work beats anything they wrote and they wrote good music. Too bad he was limited to just a couple of songs per album because the best parts of Abbey Road are "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun."

The Beatles – Revolution 9 Lyrics 14 years ago
Most of John's drug songs are actually good (Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Happiness is a Warm Gun, etc.) This one sucks though. I blame Yoko. The entire problem with the White Album is that it is NOT a Beatles album (how funny given the fact it is titled The Beatles). It is just a collection of solo works composed by each member of the Beatles and then performed collaboratively. Thankfully they returned to collaborative works for Let it be and Abbey Road.

Mandragora Scream – Close Every Door Lyrics 14 years ago
The song was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber for his musical "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." There are two meanings I draw from this song. One is the literal meaning of Joseph's situation as he is locked away in jail by Potiphar (who owned him since he was a slave).

There is also the second meaning I draw from the song. This song isn't just Joseph's story. This is the story of the Jews through the centuries of persecution. While the line of "children of Israel" fits the 1st meaning of the song since Jacob (Joseph's father) was known as Israel, it also fits this one as the Jewish people are the children of Israel. Lines like "just give me a number, instead of my name" invoke images of the Holocaust where Jews who were lucky enough to be spared the gas chambers at Auschwitz were tattooed with 6 digit numbers on their left forearm. The song also speaks of being promised a land that they will get after suffering the persecution.

The Fratellis – Chelsea Dagger Lyrics 14 years ago
Prior to the 2010 WCSF, a Vancouver news station played the song for the Canucks in their dressing room. Ryan Kessler's first words after hearing the song were "goal scored by #88 Patrick Kane." I can't think of a better meaning other than perhaps changing it to #19 Jonathan Toews or #81 Marian Hossa. GO HAWKS!!!
