wow there are so many different interpretations of this!
personally im trying to stick to the theory that this is all a concept album about a boy who is in love with his ghost companion, and so this is them working together on i like to think the windmill they live in (hence the turning and the house chanting on without them) and them working through their differences so they can work together, of course it is only later they realise there love. |

this one is really beautiful because its the moment where the ghost realises that she also loves him and that they need to be together, not just because they have to, but because they want to and theyre in love. |

this song made me cry, this is where the boy commits suicide so he can truely be with the ghost who he loves so much. i like to see it as him drifting him away into death while she is by her side telling him she loves him (through the banjo riff) |

i find this song to be really sad because its the moment you and hannah (the ghost) realise what the boy did and how they both ended up where they are, its between the boy explaining to her what he thinks and what happened (kilojoules + broken horse) and the arguement they have over him working with her. so this song is her way of telling him how upset and angry she is with him. |

well i think that because the whole album is about the boy being in love with the ghost, i think this song goes back to when they were children and the girl was still alive. it is set on halloween 'pumpkin head' broke that horse (pinata)' and the boy persuaded the girl to come to this place with him and something happened there, maybe he broke her heart or hurt her or they did something sexual, obviously he feels guilty about this so perhaps it has some connection with her death. i think that he bullied her and then we she ran away (killed herself(?)) he realised he loved her so is now explaining this to her ghost, hoping shell forgive him.
not quite sure about 'cross-beats' bit but thats what i think its about. |
