Seems pretty straight forward to me. The main "message" i'm seeing is a nihilistic one. There is no purpose to our lives, no meaning. Hence the lyrics: " Even if i struggle to the day i die do i wate my time". Talking about us being anesthetized further proves this point that we are living numb with no idea as to why. Self-hatred and misanthropy seems to be very prevalent throughout the song as well. |

The best song every written about suicide! The vivid details of the different forms of suicide are awe-inspiring. A song about someone so full of resentment towards their life, that they have no more interest in living it. The hope that maybe some sort of "afterlife" will bring peace or at the very least understanding. My favorite lyrics are "Beyond those cursed start above lies the answer that i seek. On the backs of bullets rides my name, longing to kiss my cheek." So hauntingly poetic, my favorite TBDM song so far. |

If these lyrics would fit I would get them tattooed on my face!!!!... I especially appreciate the lyrics, "If I could display you in a burning field impaled on your mother's arms I would without hesitation"... So brilliantly poetic, the first time I read these lyrics my boner was in the clouds! |

I definitely get the vibe that this is about a serial killer's craving to kill and torture. That sadistic uncontrollable drive to inflict pain on another human being. The lyrics are most likely inspired by a past relationship the writer may have had with a woman. The quote at the end of the song where he is speaking, are the words of "The co-ed killer" Edmund Kemper: "I knew long before I started killing that i was going to be killing, that it was going to end up like that. The fantasies were too strong. They were going on for far too long, they were too elaborate." |

I'm starting to see the theme of this album more and more as i read the song lyrics more thoroughly. At first, I thought it was the bands full-blown proclamation to being satanists. But now, i'm starting to see that the "rituals" Trevor is describing are more about humanity as a whole and our sick/evil nature. The album is more of a sarcastic misanthropic "salute" to mankind. He is enraged and mocking what we have made of this planet. I think the references to satan and evil-doing are poking fun at satanists and religion altogether. Essentially, we are leading ourselves straight to hell and we are utterly hopeless. At least, that's my take on Trevor's lyric writing. I could be wrong... |
