True, there is a lot more to the song, but I'm not really sure about it being about not swallowing 'what the corporate world is selling you'. It's mostly about feeling trapped. He speaks of his friend (Amy, whether or not that's her real name), who isn't where she wants to be in life, and takes comfort in the thought that there's always an opportunity to escape. And then there's the recurring theme of getting as much out of life as you can. 'I keep having dreams of things I need to do, of waking up but not following through' It's the fear of not living up to being what you could be, not trying hard enough - I think. And then there's so much more. Powerful song. |
