| Billy Talent – Devil in a Midnight Mass Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
"A devil in a midnight mass, He prayed behind stained glass" This clearly states that there is a priest, who is anything but holy. "A memory of Sunday class Resurrected from the past" Abuse endured in the past is resurrected when the protagonist sees that priest again "Hold your breath and count to four Pinky swears don't work no more Footsteps down the hallway floor Getting closer to my door I was alive but now I'm singing" He is stalking the priest and unlike when the protagonist was a child, "pinky swears" won't protect the priest this time. The priest is getting closer to the protagonist's who murders him. He was alive but is now euphoric. "Silent night for the rest of my life Silent night for the rest of my life Silent knight at the edge of your knife (Forgive me father) Won't make it right Silent night for the rest of my life Silent knight at the edge of your knife (You're guilty!)" The chorus (corrected) means that the protagonist will now be able to sleep soundly now that he has killed his tormentor, for whom he was judge, jury and executioner; he will never forgive him. "A devil in a midnight mass Killed the boy inside the man The holy water in his hands Can never wash away his sins" This again tells of the abuse the priest committed on him by taking his childhood away from him. It also reinforces the chorus saying that he will never forgive him. "Hold your breath and count to four Pinky swears don't work no more Put my trust in God that day Not the man that taught his way I was alive but now I'm singing" (corrected lyrics) He trusts that God will forgive him for killing his abuser (the man that taught God's way) because he knows he will be caught (or is already in Jail for other crimes) and trusts God will understand what happened. "Whisper, whisper don't make a sound Your bed is made it's in the ground" He succeeded in his quest for revenge and the priest is dead. |

You can think for yourselves Or you can buy all my toys Factorxfiles is right, not sorely mistaken. By the way, the utopian playground is a metaphor, so is the persona of Dr. Steel, just in case you're serious. |
