Blonde Redhead – Here Sometimes Lyrics 14 years ago
I think she is describing the "fireplace" as the romantic relationships she has.
"In the air, flying motionless" Maybe the partner she is with does all of the hard work of holding a relationship together. "Ring the bell so she could keep flying" as in keeping things on fire in the relationship and sounding the alarm; an exciting relationship. "This is me, completely me"; she is describing how she is in relationships. "End of day, we watch the sun go down"..maybe they have a sexual relationship and describes him "like a firework", at least for now. "You want to save me? People will save me"..clearly she is very flaky in relationships and is maybe at the age of where she should settle but constantly scouts for what she wants in love, from multiple people. "This is you, completely you" He's described in the relationship as the one trying hard to hold things together, offering to "save her" and probably working hard to keep her excited. "Now it's day, but I am dreaming. A man walks by, I want to be his wife" She's bored again and is thinking of other men. She's impulsive in relationships, and will even quickly say she wants to be married to a random man probably because she finds him sexually attractive. "I'm only here sometimes, under the tree of life" She's only impulsively commited sometimes, and probably truely thinks for a short part in the relationship about commitment. and the "tree of life" is a metaphore for how life is suppose to be; a husband, wife, kids, etc. "I'm only good sometimes, taking my time to go home" As she comes off of work or where ever she's at headed towards home, maybe she cheats. And other days she's good taking her time to go home, like maybe grocery shopping. "Like a candle wasted from burning, I got shoes tired from walking" She probably tried to commit to the "flamey" relationship and feels like she wasted her time burning the candle in the relationship, only to become bored again. "Calling on your name, my lips keep failing. They have now forgot to sing" Her conscious is probably giving her guilt, but she's just giving up.

I noticed at the end of the song, the verses "I'm only HERE sometimes under the tree of life. I'm only GOOD sometimes taking my time to go home." the words I put in caps flip-flop. "I'm only GOOD sometimes under the tree of life." as in she's only commited to the relationship sometimes. "I'm only HERE sometimes, taking my time to go home." meaning her mind will drift off and day dream about other men as she's going home, not mentally "there" where she should be.
