| Primus – Golden Boy Lyrics

Jaco, nice insight, in Steinbeck's East of Eden there is a part about an evil man, who is described in the same light as the devil and referred to as the "golden man". Additionally, the devil is often referred to as the angle of light, a play off of his cunning and evil nature. Thus, the golden boy (man) is evil, yet has some (the judge, who only punished him for shooting the supposed thief) fooled. This theme has been touched on by many and used time and time again, yet Les adds his genius creative style, blending humor with dark themes. Also, it is important to take note that Les resides in northern California, where Steinbeck lived and wrote for many years. In Monterey CA, he is an icon. |

| Emperor – I Am The Black Wizards Lyrics

This song is about the Emperor (or the god of a major religion, ie. Christianity) who is served by his wizards to recruit more followers "How many wizards that serve me with evil. I know not. My empire has no limits." . More or less what it is saying is followers of religion are superstitious and blind to reason, and that god is essentially a fictional idea created by mankind's superstitions "Boiling their spells in cauldrons of black gold. Far up in the mountains, where the rain fall not far, yet the sun cannot reach". Additionally, the emperor, or god, doesn't even have to instill fear into the hearts of man, they do it to themselves "Watching the mortals "discovering" my chronicles, guarded by the old demons, even unknown to me. Once destroyed to feast upon the screaming souls that was destroyed in my future. How many wizards that serve me with evil. I know not. My empire has no limits. " The emperor (or this idea of a man made god) has a corrupt agenda, and so do his followers "Because I am the spirit of their existence. I am them. " |
