As a side note, the above lyrics aren't entirely correct. It's not 'her gesture', but 'a jester'. She was born and raised daddy’s princess But a jester is no match for an heiress Yeah a jester is no match for an heiress ( Source: sublimewithrome.com/lyrics ) |

| Aside from stating the obvious, the song is about a guy sick of being played by a girl that he loves and he's *finally* putting his foot down and giving her that one last chance before he moves on. | |

-- To me it seems like they're in a relationship, and she's exhausted from things going wrong. It's not that anything *big* has happened, but it's all the small things that are killing her over and over. It could be that he has depression and isn't coping with anything, and that it's putting strain on their relationship. She loves him, but no matter what she does to try and help him it's never enough. The line "I'm a natural in the dark" seems to me that she's had depression herself, which may explain why she's so understanding of his behaviour, even though it's tearing her up inside. In the end, she just wants things to be good again - or at least to be able to *pretend* together that things are okay, even for a moment. -- I'm not sure how accurate that is, but that's how it resonated with me. |

The song's great and all, but I think the meaning was best explained here: http://www.fasterlouder.com.au/features/9286/Words-on-Kate-Miller-Heidke "It’s about misperception and how quickly people can judge you, based on the way you express yourself. Even the people close to you can sometimes get it wrong." |
