I'm part Cherokee, and when i heard this i thought about my great- great- great- father about how he survived the Trail of Tears. He was just a baby when he was on the Trail, but his parents died and he was rescued by some white missionaries he took the name Stephen Bennett and then he became a preacher. I'm proud of my heritage, and it makes me mad about what the white men did, but it makes me think that if those missionaries hadn't taken him in i would not be here. When i heard this song it reminded me of the movie The Mission with Robert De Niro in it, because the way the Europeans treated the Indians that lived in the missions were treated like crap once they were captured and sold into slavery, and then we turn around and to the same thing to our Indians. Just my thoughts. |
