I agree with theinhale227. I think this song is about a religious person who was raped, and now she is questioning her faith. "Chastity, what a virtue to be stolen" Her virginity was stolen. "Blasphemy, shadow stripped me of my reason" She committed blasphemy but had no choice. "I can't believe you let this happen to me" She's angry at god for letting this happen. "A child of love from a man I hate, until my dying day" She now has an unborn child whose father is a rapist, and she'll have to live that for the rest of her life. |

This is my interpretation: It's a love song, about knowing that the relationship won't work out, but knowing how hard it will be to let go so you try to keep the relationship together. "She's done with playing Jesus, she's gonna need a friend" means that she's done with praying to stay alive, and she's going to need someone to bring down with her. This is metaphorical though. In the relationship, she's done with trying to keep the relationship alive and if her heart gets broken, so will his. The line "Just like Sid and Nancy, I will be bleeding after you" refers to Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen. Nancy was found dead in a hotel room, and a few months after, Sid committed suicide with a note saying that they had a death pact, and to bury him next to Nancy. The song is saying that if one of them gets hurt, the other will too. So the line "I don't wanna stay here, I will be bleeding after you" means that he doesn't want to stay in the relationship, because if he does, they'll both end up getting hurt in the end. "Why do we stay, why do we play along" is saying why do people stay in the relationship and pretend everything is good when it's not going to work out? "I can play along, baby so long" means that he can only pretend it's fine for a while. |
