O.A.R. – Missing Pieces Lyrics 14 years ago
here's a comment that serves purpose to this website..

I believe that the band designed this album, "the wanderer," with a message that reaches out to those wandering around this world trying to find meaning to life.

This song in particular holds consistent to all the other songs on this album because when somebody gets frustrated with where they'll end up in this crazy word, you can get reduced to quite a drinking habit.
sarcastically: "...sometimes i drink...that's where i like to think.."

you can understand what i'm saying if you give the entire wanderer album a conscious and thorough listen.

I agree, the song is about growing up. For the most part, its about hanging around and shooting the shit, but also really trying to find meaning in our experiences in life. It seems like the album title "the wanderer" reaches out to those individuals who always have that feeling of looking for something, that is, something of greater meaning than themselves. I've always interpreted the wanderer as someone searching for meaning to life, because in that journey, you may definitely get caught wandering around and finding nothing for a while.

This song can bring everyone back to the good times in their life and realize how much they have grown since then. I believe the line: "...the gas was low" is symbolic for our souls starting to develop as we mature. The soul at such a young age means nothing, but looking back on those times, we can see that we did the things we did because we were just living ("we was driving by way too fast to know..").

O.A.R. – Toy Store Lyrics 14 years ago
Yes, the song is very simple. I do agree with interpretations of the store clerk is a metaphor for God, which is exactly when I was interpreting this song. My reason for saying this is because I'm the kind of person that finds most all choices in life appealing. In today's society, there are so many "avenues" in which you can guide your life down. But who really knows which one is better than the other? As a Catholic, I believe that God (the store clerk) knows whats best for you because he understands your very nature. With the symbolism for God as the store clerk, he knows everything about each toy and where it would lead you (in the context of life) should you choose any particular toy.
As a kid, you want to be able to have all of them at one time (which is just a child's nature). When you grow up however, the "mother" figure, or that person who would normally help guide you or influence you in your life decisions, would advise you to go a certain way and to stick with it until tomorrow (which would bring something new), or until the next opportunity for you to buy something new at the toy store (opening up to more of life's opportunities). In summary, HUGE SYMBOLISM in the context of toys(possessions, relationships, choices, etc) and aisles (avenues of life to discover, etc.) and the store clerk (the store clerk who knows whats best if you choose that "toy").
