The Jesus Lizard – Boilermaker Lyrics 14 years ago
If in fact this song has a meaning, I think it's about either the singer or someone coming off of heroin. I say that because "molasses" may be referring black tar heroin which is a sticky brown substance, and a "fly in molasses" is kind of like a person being addicted to heroin. I had a friend that was addicted to it and it took him 4 years to kick it. He was dope sick at my house once, he was shaking like the song says "I'm calm now, but I'm shaking", and he said he was also kind of paranoid that someone would see him like that, which would explain the repetative "what's that?..." Maybe the "There's an arched back" line could be referring to the muscle soreness that they feel when they are withdrawing from the drug. And "make me another boilermaker" could mean to load up the foil with another ball of heroin, or the hypo with a speed ball, or maybe just to make him an actual boilermaker, cuz supposedly large quatities of alcohol can somewhat quell the cravings for the drug temporarily. Charlie Parker was a known heroin addict, and he also drank alot when he couldn't get it. Anyway that's my interpretation, maybe it's wrong but whatever.
