"Just put on Lucinda baby and dance with me" - he is referring to Lucinda Williams. In concert he said he had a fiancé and an 8 month old daughter and he wrote this song on the road and that it was about ending up on the beach somewhere with your lady drinking Margaritas. |

| I whole heartedly believe that a song or a poem means exactly whatever the listener or reader feels from the song/poem. That being said, I believe everyone's interpretations are absolutely correct. This song is one of my favorites and so is the band. When I listen to this song I see the singer as a 20 year old Musician who has made it and all his life he has been running from pressures of faith and ideas of being something other than a musician. I think this song is the place where he his free, but to follow this dream of being a professional musician means being gone from the ones he loves. I believe he was going on tour or to record their record and she couldn't or wouldn't go with him. He needs her but his dream sets him free and he is asking her to wait for him ( "fall asleep to the tv darling )until he gets back to be with her again. He fears that it will be the end of their relationship but he has to do it and he promises he will be back to be with her. | |
