this is my own interpretation of the song, in the context of my life. one more day down these stairs his room is cold now and it hurts like hell he holds tight, he stares its almost over and its running through his head they dont know me they dont know more than i show shes walking up to him so slowly its about time, its about time to fly away but wait, this one is different 'cause shes lonely fold your wings, youll need them more one day to me, this is the boy saying he's going to kill himself. "one more day down these stairs" and "it's almost over" seem to be referring that this is his last day on earth and he doesn't have to deal with his loneliness anymore, since he never truly connected with anyone enough to reveal his true self. he also states "it's about time to fly away," possibly from this world. he then sees or meets a girl, and he sees that she is different from anyone he has met before because she is like him, and he decides that he wont kill himself, so he folds his wings knowing that he'll leave this world another day, but not just yet. one more smile, one more bed her eyes are dark now and they hurt like hell shes so still, shes dead she knows its over, she holds her head and says, they cant love me they cant love what i dont show hes walking up to her so slowly its about time, its about time to fly away but wait, this one is different 'cause hes lonely fold your wings, youll need them more the girl in the song is a girl who has done regrettable things in her past, mainly involving sleeping with a lot of men in order to find the right one. she eventually realizes that the men she sleeps with obviously don't love her because she's never shown her true self, just as the boy, she's only shown her smile, which i'm interpreting as her good looks, before they hop into bed. she meets the boy from the earlier verse and just as she's about to 'fly away' she realizes that he is going through the same issues that she has. and honestly i have no clue how to interpret the first person verses, i can't even surely determine who is narrating it. anyway, that is my own personal interpretation of it, i hope someone else sees it the way i do. |
