I think people misunderstand this song. It's not about politics or politicians. It's about the record industry. "I'll grab my pen and write about Kryptonite, so you can feel all right." Direct reference to 3 Doors Down. Not bashing THEM by any means, but basically saying how record labels don't want artists to use their music to talk about anything REAL or potentially controversial. They want you to talk about benign subjects that won't offend or alienate listeners because it's all about money, not art. "Industrialized" "sold out" "sucking corporate d__ks". All referencing how the music industry is just that, a business, not a way of spreading art to people. "We'll always be the same no matter who you are." Label heads and A&R people will change, but Nothingface will not stop sining about what they want. |

To me, this song is most definitely about Courtney Love. "Prom dress and a sneer, the woman of the year but not quite" - Pretty much says it all to me. She was known for wearing dresses on stage (look up Kinderwhore). And she definitely had an attitude that resulted in some sneers. "Junkie-isms". She was definitely a drug addict, so that fits. I could go on, but if you don't see it from reading these lyrics, anything else I could say won't help you. And yes, some references to Kurt are present as well ("All the other kids are sad again" basically says that all the alternative rock kids are upset at his passing; "don't you love the leader of the band, equal parts Butthead and Peter Pan" references Courtney's marriage to Kurt, who was a goofball but also had charming boy-like qualities. |

Song is about Matt missing his girlfriend while on tour.
"Every mile makes me feel so far away" and "another city and I tell you that we're on our way." - These lines solidify the idea that he's touring.
"You are the only thing that helps me sleep at night" and "Another week we'll be in the same bed at night" - These lines suggest that he's missing a romantic partner. |

So there's this girl, right? And she's really pretty and flirty and cute, but inside she's an evil whore. All the guys know it, but they still fall for her. In this song, the band is basically describing her and trying to find a way to let the truth be known. |

I think the song is about being in a band in general, but also these more specific points:
1.) Kids thinking you're hot shit and you pretending not to care or be flattered/grateful.
2.) Jaded kids who jump from trend to trend and claim that a band is selling out/changing their image.
3.) Kids who think you're an egomaniac, when you're really not.
4.) Kids who trash bands for copying other bands.
Basically, it's all through the eyes of the band members dealing with criticisms from stupid scene kids who don't know crap about being in a band. |

I agree it's about Bush and the Afghanistan war, but NOT the Iraq War.
Can you guess why?
Skeletones came out in April 2003. The Iraq War started in March 2003. The lyrics for the album would have to have been written in 2002 or earlier. |

I think this song (with the exception of the parts about music) are written the perspective of a 9/11 terrorist.
"Not long til we find a way. To attain our blood commitment" - About enacting a jihad.
"Revoke our dreams of demons, To tear the world apart
Now that we have our reasons, Our holocaust will start
Your inner fear it complicates, Make us laugh, it make us hate
You will fall down one day" - About hating America, deciding to take it down, and making a commitment to it's destruction.
That's just what I think. I'm not sympathizing/agreeing with anyone/group. |

I think this song it totally about 9/11. Not the event itself, but the aftermath globally. I think it's a reference to the fact that before 9/11 Americans were so nonchalant and thought everything was good, but when it went down, so shocked that people out there actually hated us. The evidence was right there, but everyone chose to "ignore it and live our lives."
"We invented the way to terrify en masse" is basically saying that our country has caused so much destruction around the world.
"And we all wonder why when someone wants to kill us" is talking about how Americans all don't understand why there are people around the world (mainly al-Qaeda) hate us. |

I think this is about politics and capitalism. I mean, look at the title. It's really a fusion about how our corrupt politicians are "sucking corporate d**ks" and laying down for big business to trample all over the little people of the world, just so they can get voted back in or get a piece of the pie. |

To me, this song is about the murders of prominent public figures in U.S. history that have become conspiracies. While it has parts that are all-encompassing or general, there are two references to specific cases. The lyrics "A patsy is useful. A window with a view" is a direct reference to Lee Harvey Oswald, who was accused of assassinating President John F. Kennedy in 1963. Oswald famously announced to TV crews that he was a "patsy" and the 'window with a view' part is a reference to the fact that he allegedly fired the fatal shots from a window in a nearby building as JFK drove past. The second specific reference is to Mark David Chapman, who was tried and convicted of killing former Beatle John Lennon in 1980. Chapman was known to have become obsessed with the J.D. Salinger novel "Catcher In The Rye", which the lyrics say "Read 'Catcher In The Rye' 110 f**king times" and "Obsession defined." Another lyric says "That's what he said to me. The voice in my mind," which is a reference to the fact that Chapman had repeatedly heard voices in his head during his last few years as a free man. Finally, in a more general sense, the song is written as if we were hearing from the "government-programmed" assassins, which is referenced by the lyrics "You're a little device. A mindless satellite" and "I'm remote-controlled. I'm robotized for the dark government." |
