What a beautiful song, so applicable to me right now. My personal interpretation - The end of a relationship that she doesn't want to end, doesn't want to accept the end. Maybe the other person initiated the break-up and she wants to tell him how she feels but is afraid to - fear of rejection? Fear of hearing that they don't feel the same way? Still hopeful, but knowing the torture that comes with it and wanting to protect herself from more hurt. That's what I hear when I listen to this song. |

This song just came up on shuffle and I couldn't believe how fitting the lyrics are with what I'm going through right now. I agree with birdonawire that their songs can be interpreted in so many ways. My interpretation is basically what is happening to me - At a time in your life where you're so completely unavailable and coming apart at the seams when someone steps in even though you have no capacity to handle them. In the end they find a way into your life and wind up adding to the mess, leaving you more broken. "why would you shatter somebody like me" and "It doesn't work that way / wanting not to want you doesn't make it so" just get me everytime I hear this song. They're such a talented band. |
