Tom Waits – Waltzing Mathilda Lyrics 13 years ago
I love this song. End of it made me cry the first time I heard it, while reading this.

For me it captures the same feel from the original, but in a metropolitan setting. The loneliness, the desperate connection made (swag vs prostitute), the day-to-day survival in your current sitation, as an outcast, the deep resignation that this is your life.

The fact that you only really see jazz in cities adds to this as well.

Same problems within themselves, just different place and differently expressed.

A Perfect Circle – The Outsider Lyrics 14 years ago
This song chillingly describes a girl that I work with. She's physically very attractive, always comes in decked out with makeup and perfume, always talks about how she wants to look better. She's fucking the manager, abuses that social position and will create pointless drama out of EVERYTHING. She'll always tell you about her personal life's dramas without anyone asking and then bitch about you behind your back.

She'll refuse to confront you directly, though will resort to very bitchy tactics if she doesn't like you e.g. shoulder barging you every time she passes you. If you then tell her that's not on she'll laugh and pretends it was nothing. Completely non-belligerent, though quite a hawk behind everyone's backs. In other words, fake with everyone she talks to, yet self-obsessed. It's probably not surprising that she studies psychology.

We used to have a great team and everyone enjoyed coming to work. Now it's become hellish. None of us want anything to do with her and the only reason she's there is because she's in the managers bed. She is toxic and has poisoned the well that was our team.

Thank fuck for songs like this, and artists like Maynard.
