May I point out that senses fail is NOT a religious specified band. Though there are references to God, I feel this song has a more deeper personal meaning to the subject than God. It is the hardships of one trying to handle a heroin addiction. The first verse, is explaining how it feels to take the drug. The pain, feeling, etc. The 2nd part explains (in order) his body's reaction to the drug. How much harder his addiction is getting. The harshness to the drug. And his family's reaction. "So let me take this medicine to quench my love for violent things. My swan song will be like a bullet laced in anger as the razor cuts the soft spot on your heel. (each breath) is getting getting slower (this war) is getting harder, to fight by myself (sick waves) of bitter fashion (rip down) the shield that I have tears rain from above" The chorus, "do you see the life i lead" is pretty self-explainitory. "So follow me into the sun" is his future death. "And I will bleed the poisons dry" is withdraw. The 2nd verse, simply describing unsuccessful attempts of suicide by slashing of the wrists and how we as people judge others for such scars. 2nd part (in order), during the "high", the visions one sees. The person's calling for help is useless. The lifelessness and hopelessness of the individual. "These bayonet scars never cease to blind the light shed from the beast and all we do is hate. (Eyes shot) from constant visions. (Angels) are rendered useless. Good has lost it's heart." The ending, in meaning, would be, 'the pinch of a needle, don't give my secret, my desire to free myself, shot down with addiction, my life will end, due to my addiction, Jesus (I am) is the son of God, follow his (my) footsteps into heaven. "Bite to break skin. Don't give the secret. My stoic face, beaten with passion. The Phoenix will die inside the firestorm. I am the son. Follow my footsteps." DO NOT FORGET poems/songs can have multiple meanings seen by others opinions. This is my opinion of what the song means. What's yours? |

| According to interviews and the commentary on The Wall (the movie) Roger Waters explains that NONE of the members of Pink Floyd were never influenced by drugs.(Ironic considering most of their songs are dark and mysterious) "Hey You" is a great example of misleading concepts of Pink Floyd and how one does not want to live that type of lifestyle, anymore. | |
