Arcade Fire – Asleep at the Wheel Lyrics 14 years ago
I think its about his father not caring about his family, just that they turn out alright, so long as he doesn't have to get to know them.

Arcade Fire – Windowsill Lyrics 14 years ago
seeing that this song comes directly after antichrist television blues on the album, and the last line in ATB is "Am i the antichrist?", spoken to god, i think this is and answer, perhaps as if from god. like the parts that are very direct, the "I don't want to..." parts are from god but the rest is from someone else who knows what its like, the "I don't want to live in my fathers house no more" sounds more like a play on being Jesus than actually being God, like everyone is becoming so morally bruised that even Jesus is doubting his faith?

Arcade Fire – Keep the Car Running Lyrics 14 years ago
For some reason this song strongly reminds me of a schizophrenic left to his own devices, trying to outrun this unknown entity that he does not know is a figment of his imagination. So he seems to be writing a note to his girlfriend, or maybe just someone who cares, trying to explain this unfounded fear; "they know my name because i told it to them" could be referring to someone he once trusted turning into one of his imaginary bad guys, like an undercover spy of sorts, the whole "keep the car running" thing sounds like he is telling this person he will not be where he can be found by them because he essentially does not wish to be found, all the lines about the river being too deep and the mountain being too high sounds like hes trying to persuade the listener not to follow him because he is confident that they would not succeed and he wants them to move on, yet still be aware of these bad guys in their own life, so "keep the car running" also sounds a little like advice, meaning that you should be ready to up and leave if the bad guys catch on to you.
Also, I think it could be about a suicide, where "Keep the car running" means he plans to either kill himself in a car crash or using carbon monoxide poisoning. The lines about the river being too deep and the mountain being too high sound like he is trying to discourage someone close to him from doing the same by saying that it would be different, somehow more difficult for that person, perhaps that their motives would be less drastic. Also, the fear he talks about sounds like it could be a fear of uselessness or depression, but now his fear has become a reality and he cannot bear to live in fear and sadness. Perhaps the question in the end, The "when is it coming" is in reference to "when am I going to die already", perhaps his suicide is not going according to plan?

Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #2 (Laika) Lyrics 14 years ago
I completely agree, like maybe its about an unruly child being sent to boarding school. Perhaps linked to the fact that both Win and Will attended a boarding school?

Arcade Fire – (Antichrist Television Blues) Lyrics 14 years ago
I think that this song is about a chain of events, starting with 9/11 and how that leads him to seek alternate work than in the big city. Then he starts using his child as his job, making money off of her singing, but when she feels out his plot to use her for his own purposes she is hesitant and perhaps even resistent about singing, ergo the persuasion in the verses. He goes rather swiftly back and forth between talking to God and talking to his child. in the intermission like slow parts of the song it seems as if he is experiencing remorse or an epiphany of sorts, but then he brushes it of and things go back to how they were and in the end he resorts to threatening his child and forcing her to do his bidding, then he sees the monster hes become.

Arcade Fire – In the Backseat Lyrics 14 years ago
okay so heres the deal. I think that in the beginning she is a child and she just kind of listens to her elders and lets them teach her things that she needs to know for life(aka driving) but as she gets older she gets more rebellious and irritated at being told what to do all the time. and then the people she looks up to who used to drive for her are dying in "car accidents" which are really just untimely deaths, lioke that of Alice, so with this newfound lack in authority she is thrust into the drivers seat of life with plenty of advice but no real experience to go on. so she panics and admits in the end that she longs for the time when she had people to help her make decisions and wishes she was a child again so that the people represented by the names of alice and norah can help her figure things out again. And at the very end when the music calms down, thats when she gets a hold on things and she becomes someones driver, someones guide or teacher, and the cycle starts all over again. But thats just what i take from it.

Arcade Fire – You Tried to Turn Away My Fears Lyrics 14 years ago
Your half-right, JF, see its not win, its Richard! Weird, I know, but by that point they still hadn't set a true lead singer, so they just kinda took turns.
