The Wombats – Walking Disasters Lyrics 14 years ago
I personally think it's about him finding someone who is as messed up as him, and them trying to put their lives back together, together. But at the same time, it's sort of the realisation that being messed up isn't a bad thing (displayed in the line 'And self help might help when it makes us laugh'), and that everyone is messed up in their own little way, and that no one can ever be perfect, and that's ok as long as no one is suffering for it (the lines about making up with parents, and how she USED to disrespect herself by living a bad life)

The Wombats – Kill The Director Lyrics 14 years ago
Honestly, I would have rather not heard that. This song is brilliant because it's a frighteningly accurate portrayal of what it's like to fall in love alone, without the other person falling in love with you, and the fact that it was written to take the piss of cliche romantic movies is really quite heart breaking.

I pretty much just lost the only thing that can console me when things are bad.

(By the way, sorry if this is confusing, but it makes sense in my own head)

My interpretation of the 'carrots help you see much better in the dark' line is that doing things that are good for you give you a clearer view, in a way. In this story, the good thing is him falling in love and the clearer view is that love is shit. To be blunt.
Love is put across as such a wonderful thing which makes people happy and is essential to be good as a human being, but as my interpretation shows, finding love, the ultimate goodness, opens your eyes to how bad the best thing in the world really is.

I'd say the head and spout thing is basically his brain (head) and his heart (spout) disagreeing with each other. 'They work together; they can't figure anything out', working together is the act of falling in love and not being able to figure things out is that they both want to go in different directions and think different things of the situation. Basically I think they just wanted to put that slightly cliched emotion into the song without it sounding too repetitive.

Sadly I only just realised that this song is my life. Yes, I've listened to it a million times but I only just absorbed the lyrics. Except I'm a girl, so if the genders were reversed... But the lyrics are literally me.

Ok, time out from my private life. This song is unbelievably cute, and I don't think there is anything else in the world that can pinpoint the insanities of love like it. It's wonderful. That's all.

Franz Ferdinand – Walk Away Lyrics 14 years ago
Personally, I doubt it's about 9.11. Not because Franz Ferdinand isn't American (Which by the way is completely true, they're Scottish), or because no one outside America cares about that tragedy (Which isn't true, I'm Australian and and trust me, we felt it too), but simply because Franz Ferdinand tend to write songs on more trivial topics than this. It's not in their nature to write a cryptic song about terrorism. Not saying they couldn't, but I doubt that's what this is. There are some parts to it which are very confusing and don't seem to make sense in the genre of love songs, and some reference to political leaders and such, but that doesn't mean it's a song about war. I truly believe it's a love song, not just because that's how I interpret the lyrics but because the other theories seem flimsy.

And for god sake people, I'm fourteen and I know more about 9.11 than most of you. If you're going to be writing about something, at least know what you're talking about.
