He performed this live on a local radio station in Washington. The radio host said he got multiple calls from people who had to pull off the road because they were weeping from the sheer emotion of this song. To be able to convey such emotion through music and lyrics is a rare gift that most artists do not have. I am not a fan of rap but nonetheless Macklemore is one of my all time favorite artists. It is real music with such meaningful lyrics that you cannot help but love it. Macklemore pours his life and soul into his music, and he shows that to be a rapper you do not need to be covered in tatoos or use excessive profanity in your music. He is an inspiration. RIP Dave Niehaus. |

Am I the only one who thinks this song (along with the obvious spiritual themes) is in reference to alcohol and alcoholism? It seems like the entire chorus is saying that Andy needs to pretend that he never needed alcohol (maybe at confession...?) He clearly states "the bottle's gonna bury us anyway, but I'm doing what I gotta to stay awake". In other words, he knows that alcohol is going to kill him eventually but what's one more in the long run? |
