Defeater – Nameless Streets Lyrics 14 years ago
Travels is true poetry, it's such a beautiful and sad album. Blows every other modern hardcore album I can think of out of the water. I think this song is about when the protagonist's junkie mother takes him with her one day to score drugs. He follows her deeper into the bad end of town (in which they live), until they arrive at her hook-up's house where she needs to pick up her fix. She asks him not to leave her, and tells him to keep quiet and stay out of sight. He hides under the stairs in the dark, because there are junkies everywhere in the run down building - he's scared. Everything about the building reminds him of heartbreak and of depression, the lack of all happiness - it reminds him of his home. He begs his mother to bring him home, and after she gets high, she leads him back home. When they get to their apartment, his alcoholic father is waiting there to beat her he yells at her "where you been? what you on? who'd you fuck?" and raises his hand to strike her. The son (or maybe the mother, or father) blacks out and the song ends.
