| Sage Francis – Hey Bobby Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I wouldn't call this a tribute to Bob Dylan. No doubt he's referencing The Masters of War by Bob Dylan but i think it is more emphasizing the anti-war sentiment and issues with war industry that both songs share. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fI32RiXXuo in this video francis does a short explanation that makes the meaning pretty obvious. He's hinting at the scandal in the 2000 election when Bush beat Gore by sheer luck and many believe it was because Jeb Bush (Bush's brother and florida governor at that time) fixed the florida votes. "This so called president got elected in a court room" Gore took the recount to the Supreme Court (all justices elected by republicans, two by H.W. Bush) and they decided it was took late for a recount, discarding the florida votes. "With the war efforts of pops he inherited a fortune" The war over natural resources was a big money maker for the Bush family "Big Brotherly love is the 21rst Century's plague." At the beginning of the 21rst century Jeb plagued Americans (even to this day) trying to help a brotha out "A naked problem child is trying to find the right clown costume to make his father smile So he bombs while he tries to tell jokes. This ain't a false alarm, can't you smell the smoke? You're in the line of fire where they buy and sell votes." Many people think Bush took office and fought his fathers unfinished war with in the middle east, buying votes to fulfill his dads hoop dreams, and now the people of america are feeling the repercussions The other references to a war of natural resources, bad politicians, etc It seems to me that Francis is just using Dylan's song to point out that times haven't changed, politicians are still the same. Both songs are seriously anti-war but Francis also expresses more anti-american views of many modern citizens. Anyway, just offering up an idea! |
