I think it's about longing to fall in love with the person that you've been dreaming of, but not being able to find them. In part, you lose a lot of hope ("downcast eyes") as the years go by. But at the same time, you still long to find that person, and a part of you still believes that you will, one day. So despite there being "no love left in [you]", you still say that you're "forever [theirs]" to that person. But ultimately you don't have much hope left; hence "whatever walks in my heart will walk alone." There is no one to give your love to, but that doesn't make the love go away. Instead, all that love is just there, with no one to give it to. It's been over two decades on this planet, and I still haven't found the girl I'm looking for. I sometimes doubt that I ever will. People tell me that my dreams are unrealistic, but I can't settle for anyone less than her, and my beautiful romance, so I might have to walk alone for the rest of my life. She's got to be out there somewhere, but I don't know if I'll ever find her in this world...still, I'm forever hers. |

On a surface level, this song is about a child who falls asleep for a nap (hence "daymare") and subsequently enters a realm of nightmares. Very creepy and very cool! But I always like to look for meaning beyond the surface level. Isn't real life kind of a horror story, in its own way? We deal with dark emotions, circumstances outside of our control, and failures throughout this life...Everyone has a different beast that torments them. I almost see it as Nightwish encouraging us to face this life anyway, and even embrace the thrill of it. Things *will* go wrong, no matter what we can do. The key is to weather the storm anyway, which is why the "pendulum still swings" for us. It seems very similar to Ghost River in that sense. And this world really is one of fallen mirrors. How often do we look at ourselves and see worthlessness, even though every one of us is valuable? "Kingdom in cinders" makes sense in that context, too. This world often seems like it's burning, because of the many things that are going wrong and falling apart. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I like thinking of it this way. :) Regardless, this song is pure poetry. I am in awe of Tuomas' lyrical gifts. And Anette did a brilliant job, too! :D |

All right. Edited it again, many years later haha. Changed "barbwire" to "fine wine"; I don't know how I messed that up. I realized I don't know 100% all the lyrics to the song, so if anyone has anything that they think it incorrect please correct it. Basically - be happy; be confident. We are humans are meant to not give up and keep pushing forward; to have hope. This song lifted me up through a lot of rough patches. :) |

http://www.lyricsmania.com/sun_children_lyrics_nickodemus.html That's better. I made a few mistakes..."my mind is like a barb wire" should be "my mind is like a fine wine." My hearing is so screwed up. :P At any rate, I love this song. The message is pretty much...yeah, nothing's going right at the moment. But we are strong, we can do better, and we can get through this together. It's a message of hope. And it's freaking copyrighted. >_< |

"Due to copyright restrictions, we are not authorized to display these lyrics." Well that's annoying. I made quite a few errors anyway, but still. -_- |

| It's about loving somebody but not wanting to show it, probably due to a past negative experience, or else just hiding your emotions in general. Life involves risk (gambling) and sometimes you want to keep things secret. | |

| I definitely agree. I was wondering about the "alligator" part myself, and I think you've got it :D | |

He’s going through a major change in his life, and he’s afraid for the future. One of his valuable assets is his imagination, because he can mentally escape to another world - i.e., the rockets taking off from the earth. And he wishes with all his heart that he could escape for real, but he can’t. So he’s accepting his fate, and he’s not going to give up and let fear, hopelessness, or past failures beset him. He’s going to succeed in whatever he does with determination, and he will not fail. And if things get tough, it’s okay because he still has his imagination, the escapism of which helps him get through difficult times. His imagination can also be used to simply envision a better future for himself, and to work towards achieving it. He’s extremely apprehensive, but he knows it’s an inevitable emotion (“I’m scared to death that I’ll never be afraid”), and he’s ready to blast off, so to speak. The rockets taking off represent three things - whatever change in life he’s going through, his envisioning of a better future, and his escape with his imagination. All three coexist, but only the first is externally visible. He knows the next portion of his life isn’t going to be easy, but he can find within him the strength to get through it and excel. I love the line “imagination is hot.” I don’t know if that was supposed to be taken literally or not, but I find imagination in someone to be an attractive quality and I’m glad I’m not the only one who does :D That was really long and probably didn’t make any sense, so sorry about that. |
