Lupe Fiasco – Fighters (feat. Matthew Santos) Lyrics 12 years ago
personally I like the shoutouts part. he's rapping that you shouldn't worry about being what people will think of you, and he knows how you feel, and then he raps a couple sentiments about meeting his lost loved ones in heaven

Scarface – In Between Us Lyrics 12 years ago
I always thought the chorus was kind of weird but the more you listen to it the more sense it makes.

I remember the first time I heard this song, and Nas's verse just totally ripped it up, I was bobbing my head to it. But then when I heard Scarface's deep booming voice resonate through my ears and into my entire body, I remember why Scarface has amazing guests on his songs: because he can never be outdone

Scarface – I Seen A Man Die Lyrics 12 years ago
After I heard this song I sat there with my mouth wide open for 20 minutes. It just hit me that hard. "I never seen a man cry til I seen a man die." It tells us two big things. Scarface tells you how everybody puts on a hard face and tries to act tough, concealing any feelings from fear of being seen as weak. And you instantly understand the type of people he faced in his neighborhood, and the attitude of gangbangers and these lost souls, the type of person the main character in this song is. Secondly, Scarface tells us how often people die. Crying is a very common thing for people to do and see everywhere. At first glance it seems like he's saying that people cry very rarely. He actually means that people die very often.

Leave it to Face to put a couple of the most powerful messages in one line. Beautiful

Lupe Fiasco – The Coolest Lyrics 13 years ago
"Cause you don't need a sub til he does reply"
People left out that sub means an automatic weapon, which fits into the whole thing about pieces and wars and drugs and the theme of the song

Lupe Fiasco – The Coolest Lyrics 13 years ago
Oh yeah I agree that with that first part of the opposites he isn't actually saying what we think he is.

"I love the Lord"
I always thought he was saying "I love the law"

"But sometimes it's like that I love me more"
He likes laws and order, but not if it gets in the way of what he wants.

"I love the peace and I love the war"
Peace as in piece as in gun. This agrees with the previous line, going against the law for selfish reasons, using guns and war as he pleases.

"I love the seas and I love the shore"
This connects back to both parts. Seas represent adventure and danger, meaning the war. Shores represent safety.

"No love for no beach, baby that's law"
A beach is the seas and shore combined, which is the edge of danger and safety, and to him that's what the law acts as. Beach also sounds like bitch, so he could be saying that there's a woman who's stopping him from being "Cool" and this is the one whose back he turns on to go to the Streets.

I love the immense amounts of double meanings and how it makes perfect sense both ways. The amount of intellectual music contained in those few lines far outmatches almost every single song in existence.
