The first three lines he comnpares himself to Martin Luther King Jr. He compares his dream to martins and his is a joke compared to martins. He uses exaggeration to show this throughout the song. He shows that it is sad that these poor children growing up in the hood have more dreams about women, sex, and money than anything. They dont have real goals that are useful, constructive, and empowering. Throughout the song he exaggerates talking about what most rappers talk about. The song is funny because he is rapping about having all these things while sitting in the backseat of someone elses car. He even mentions having a Mazarati. Sarcasm is the bases of this song. Material things are the dreams of the hood growing up. Martin had a real dream to change the lives of generations. He wants kids to dream bigger. |

The first verse is a friend of his talking to him about his lifestyle and saying that he admires Kendrisk for what he does but he could never be like him. He wants Kendrick to remember him and tell his story when he makes it.
The second verse is a girl talking to Kendrick about her anger towards him for rapping about her sister's story on his album section 80. She thinks that her lifestyle is needed for her to survive and that him talking about it like its a bad thing isnt right.
The last verse is Kendrick talking about that he hopes he inspires people with his words and that he is a voice for those that are not heard and hopes he can make a positive impact on the next generations. He will continue to tell the stories from the hood to teach people the outcome of violence and bad choices. |

This song is about how people try to solve their problems by drinking. It makes fun of people that brag about drinking and think its cool that they can drink a "swimming pool full of liquor." The second verse is about his thought process while he drunk and that it is not that great of a feeling. If you listen to the extended version, there is an extra verse that explains all this clearer. |

I have to disagree because Chris Brown's career is booming right now. He has so many fans and his singles and albums are at the top of the charts. He has done movies and everything since then. It seems like people didnt take the incident between the two of them too personal. |
