Mirah – The Garden Lyrics 14 years ago
My theory. (For the sake of brevity and clarity, I will just say she for the singer, and he for the object of affection. I know Mirah is a lesbian.)
I feel like it's a person telling their friend that they love them "I just want to sing 'I love you baby, won't you bring all the flowers you find out in the garden;'" however, he reacts badly (Don't tell me the truth, that your heart has hardened.) Even though she knows that he would, she wanted to try it anyway.
"But you don't want me anymore, how can it be? Look what you've done to me." This implies that at one time he DID want her, either for a relationship, or her presence is his life, but is now casting her aside. She is understandably devastated. Also: does anyone else notice that she's more saying "Uh-oh" than "oh oh?" I feel like she is.
The bee stinging quickly is how he shot her down; perhaps while she was "sniffing" the "flowers?" His quick reaction was shocking, and he apparently didn't even give it a second thought
In this metaphor, the garden is their relationship. "I'd give everything if you'd grant my love a pardon." She's asking him to literally forgive her confession of love, so that "all the fruits again would fill the garden." It could undo all the damage to their relationship made, if he just forgave her.
But, clearly, he doesn't. The only lines that are repeated "but you don't want me..." show that he isn't acknowledging how she's feeling, and she just really regrets everything.
