This song is more or less straight-foward. I think this song is about a guy who is deeply infatuated with a girl who could treat him like anything, but it wouldn’t change his feelings towards her. She could break his heart, but it won’t affect his love for her. “You're rarer than a can of dandelion and burdock And those other girls are just post-mix lemonade” If what previous posts said are true, which I believe they are, the comparison to drinks show his mentality that she is one of a kind. The chorus of the song, I feel, shows him wanting her to take a chance with him. “Sit next to me, before I go” The line, “So be cruel to me, because i’m a fool for you,” shows how the girl can do anything. He is in a submissive position to her. “I poured my aching heart into a pop song I couldn't get the hang of poetry That's not a skirt girl, that's a sawn-off shotgun And I can only hope you've got it aimed at me” This shows his obvious heartache resulting in her disinterest in him. The comparison of her skirt to the shotgun shoes the kind of profound effect that she has on him. The last line shows how he wishes that it were meant for him. “How I often wonder where you are You have got that face that just says 'Baby, I was made to break your heart'” The first line shows how she is always on his mind, The last two lines show the woman’s hurtful actions again, how even through his attraction, he just gets his heart broken. |
