| This is how I also interpreted it. It's nothing to do with sex, but her decision to let go of the "ugly girl that's smothering her"....the drugs and life she knows is wrong, and to let God into her heart and soul. The "sword" is the truth...slicing into the questions/doubts she has had so that from now on she won't be fooled by "his angel light" refers to the dark angel and the lure to drugs, lying, whatever wrongs she's done that are eating her up inside. She's ready to start a new life now with God in it. | |

| Where has anyone read that Lacey was raped? The only thing I've ever read was that she had some rough fights with her mother, and her mother probably hit her ("hand coming down again) as young as 10. This song to me is an apology to a family member (probably mother) that she's sorry that she remembers the ugliness back then. Because now that she's healed she can understand that her mother was hurting too. I mean think about if your kid is acting out, doing drugs and drinking alcohol, staying out late, ditching school, not following rules, talking back to you---and you are the only parent--I'm sure you'd be a little crazy. Not that it's right to hit your child, but now that Lacey is healed and can look back, she can see that her mother was depressed herself and desperately frightened of what her daughter was doing and didn't know how to handle it properly. I think I read there were a lot of other siblings and they were poor on top of it. So now she looks back and can understand it. When she says "You stood where I stood" I think perhaps that could refer to the mother was abused herself as a kid. Plus "this story ends so good" Because she is healed and she does love her mother still despite what happened. "No matter what you're gonna build my shell" Means just that she's gonna harden from being abused. Then I feel the last chorus is devoted to Jesus and so when it goes "I only notice your face" Now she's only thinking of Jesus when times are difficult and she has to brace herself---cuz then it says "No matter what you're gonna break my shell" Now her wall/shell that was built by her past abuse is now broken by Jesus. Jesus has broken her shell. Also, the "I'm shedding my skin" to me could mean she's tried to cut herself, and then she's "told it's not time yet cuz she's only 10" So it's not time to die. | |

| I agree with Twinstar. That's how I interpreted the song as well. I can see what some of the folks above are saying as well. But the lines that give it away for me are the chorus "fighting ends in forgiveness united fight all division" which to me sounds as if she is referring to a couple married under God/Christ and saying that they will unite to fight all obstacles, temptations, anything that could try to come between them...and that they have promised God and each other that if there is fighting--it must end in forgiveness. They are now "one flesh", strong and unifying...which is what a marriage should be. | |

MY COMMENTS ARE IN ( ): "Sometimes life seems to quiet into paralyzing silence Like the moonless dark, meant to make me strong. Familiar breath of my old lies Changed the color in my eyes Soon he will perferate the fabric of the peaceful by and by (I think she is talking about how she caught herself going back to her negative lifestyle) Sorrow lasts through this night I'll take this piece of you, and hold for all eternity For just one second I felt whole... as you flew right through me. (I think here she is saying that the sorrow/sadness will last through this particular night where she felt God/Jesus present and she felt whole for just that time the feeling flew right through her and was gone. She only hopes to feel that one second for all eternity. Left alone with only reflections of the memory (here she's alone remembering that euphoric feeling) To face the ugly girl that's smothering me. (she had this experience, but realizes she is left to face herself as a human and only she can change her life from this point) Sitting closer than my pain... He knew each tear before it came, (She realizes that God/Jesus knows her pain) And soon he will perforate the fabric of the peaceful by and by We kiss each other one more time And sing this lie that's half way mine (these lines make me think that it's her last time to "tango with the devil" so to speak cuz she has decided now to finally move forward and rid herself of the pain) The sword is slicing through the questions so I won't be fooled By his angel light.. (She won't be fooled and swayed into doing drugs or killing herself or anything that causes her pain anymore. "His Angel light" is the deception of the drugs, perhaps the negative people she was hanging with that she partied with etc. This is the fallen angel's light that lured her into the pain, far enough that she was going to end her life. Now she will not fail to recognize deception and won't allow pain in her life anymore. Sorrow lasts through this night I'll take this piece of you and for all eternity For just one second I felt whole as you flew right though me and up into the stars Joy will come. (Christ will come) |
