Alanis Morissette – Receive Lyrics 13 years ago
As a new mom, this song was probably very important for her to write and express. I recently saw an interview she gave where she talked about her belief that while men are "generous", women are "selfless", and I think in this song she's obviously saying that women can be too selfless, to the detriment of themselves. Being a mom to a toddler, finding the balance to provide this precious person with your attention and devotion while not losing yourself or ignoring your needs is very challenging. But she knows that in order to take care and be of service to her son, she needs to look after herself too. Whether we're parents or not, we can all relate to this message of making ourselves (not our jobs or our schools or even to an extent out relationships) a priority.

Alanis Morissette – Woman Down Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is probably the most celebrated song on her album, and with good reason. It just hits you in all the right spots. Simple (for Alanis), yet so effective. I don't think it needs further explanation as it's pretty self explanatory. But man, it's a hellova good track that I hope becomes a single.

Alanis Morissette – Lens Lyrics 13 years ago
Such an inspiring and timely message from one of the greatest lyricists of my generation.

The message is simple as I see it: varying opinions and arguing incessantly over them is causing a rift in humanity as a whole. We need to start focusing on the "and" in life, not about the "versus". Ethics and opinions aren't categorically right or wrong but love is universal.

Alanis Morissette – Havoc Lyrics 13 years ago
This song to me speaks about ridding oneself of bad habits. In many ways, it's almost reminiscent of Flavors of Entanglement and harkens back to its theme of hitting rock bottom coupled with the phoenix rising from the ashes. To me, this particular song illustrates how she still struggles with big challenges and repeats the same mistake ("I'm slipping again"...."affirm mea culpa for the millionth time"), but also her admission that while they do exist, they don't defeat her. It's a really beautiful song.

Alanis Morissette – Incomplete Lyrics 14 years ago
An ode to the age old saying of "stop and smell the roses". Appreciating the moment, living for today, taking a breath...all things Alanis has written about many times over.
