The Smiths – These Things Take Time Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with koyalchuk and goodjohn. The song seems to be told from a virgin's point of view. It's as if the other person is just using the narrator for sex and doesn't really care about him, even though he adores him/her. "You said I was ill" is like the narrator is showing a lack of interest in sex, he wants to take time with the relationship, and to the other person that lack of interest is like there's something wrong with him (the narrator).

The first few lines, behind a dis-used railway line, is a sort of seedy and dodgy settings, and 'a place where we can go' seems to mean somewhere quiet where they can have sex basically. And then the 'something that I won't forget too soon' is a really great kiss.

'You know where you're going and you know where you belong' is like the narrator is acknowledging that the other person will leave him behind without a second thought for someone better.

Minus the Bear – Pachuca Sunrise Lyrics 14 years ago
Holiday romance song!! To me, anyway. Meeting in the Mediterranean and being on the beach together, crying when they're apart and saying they'll come back to this place, or when they see each other again the magic (can't think of a less cheesy word) of the place will come back.

The language used has a sort of exotic holiday feel, with midnight on the beach and the sand silvered and city lights, and "none of it seems real" is all like something outside of normal experience, so likely away from home. I love this song so much, it's so beautifully sad but catchy at the same time. I'd kill to see this band live.

The Strokes – Machu Picchu Lyrics 14 years ago
This might be taking some of the lyrics a bit too literally, but some of it seems to be about prostitution and cheapening yourself, particularly "selling your body on the street". The "jacket made of meat" and "horses feet" stuff shows the harsh and depressing nature of people's lives when they live cheaply and sell themselves, and the "trying to find a mountain I can climb" is like saying he wants to do something somewhat meaningful and significant, even if it's not a big thing or achievement. Also there are sort of hints at romance, with "trying to find enough space for you and I" so him addressing the song to a cheap girl sort of slightly makes sense.

I'm not surprised there's so many different interpretations of the lyrics, as when I first heard this on the radio I could only understand the "tell us" "jealous" bit with a few other odd words. I guess the only way of truly knowing will be looking at the lyrics in the official album booklet, if they're printed in there.

If the vid is anything to go by, I think the song is about prostitution and sexuality confusion

Tired Pony – Dead American Writers Lyrics 14 years ago
To me, it also seems to be about an aspiring writer who looks up to dead American writers. "I've been waiting for the spark myself" is like he is saying he is waiting for the spark of a really great idea. And the chourus is like he is saying that as a fan of the writers, he knows everything about them, every word of every book, everything about their lives, and the whole song shows this. I heard this song by chance on Waterloo Road, and I've downloaded it and had it on repeat since, it's absolutely beautiful. And it makes me want to read The Great Gatsy yet again =D
