* 4. This song follows up from deathtripper which was a memory.This one is very similar to Jupiter`s eye. He describes his feeling again ,even plotting self-harm or suicide.Again the use of Rhyme and percussion drives the insanity feeling forward.This is progression towards an obscure outcome. "increase the dose diminish the high" I don`t think he is talking about drugs here but his addiction of thinking to much of Her. "A smile is a pipe dream suffering - aged like wine" He refuses to be happy or maybe he cannot,but he knows the more he tries to do it the easier it will get,but he likes the feeling of self loathing to much. "coughing up blood with my mind on fire juggling switchblades on a high tension wire" Can this mean that his gambling with his life by using drugs or maybe he just lives his live like he doesn`t care if he dies. "I don`t have any scars only dormant wounds that crack like fault lines" He didn`t get any tissue damage in the 'Accident' but he has emotional trauma and they are evolving and getting worse. "I only have five thoughts anymore and four of them are of you" Again he can`t stop thinking about her.It occupies his mind that it feels like it is on fire.The 5th one is an idea(obsession he has)I don`t think it`s about suicide.It`s an Idea to exhume her grave as you will see in the next song Cemetery road #5.Then some eerie laughter plays in the background personifying his descent into a dark place in his mind.Then he explains his idea ; "body bursts and leak like a trash bag into the gutter and the grave" This isn`t suicide,he wants to exhume his lover` grave ,put the rotting remains in a trash bag and through it in a place that contains water(watery grave).This can also resemble his exhaustion of plotting to long. |

The story of this song is the beginning of the story arc.This describes the 'Accident' or 'event' before She went to the morgue.Again the imagery in this song is very vivid yet disturbing.The way he compliments her wounds make me wonder whether he/she didn`t cause the accident on purpose.The song speaks for itself but I can`t really figure out how this fits into the story arc. | |

| * 2.Jupiter`s eye describes the character`s slow dwell into insanity further as well as his longing.Notice the use of heavy percussion and rhyme through out this song that drives the feeling of insanity. This story plays of sometime after Rotten Yellow."Doomed lovers in a free fall,together till they crash to to ground"Is this something he reads in a newspaper or does he describe the 'accident'?He longs for his sweet disappearer (sleep,drugs,maybe Her?) "as this avalanche of night slides down"-the loneliness of the night that brings turmoil.Then he describes Her when he first saw her at a bonfire.Her alien eyes(something alien to him that he didn`t knew back then)flicker a moment in the flames then follow the smoke into the sky - she would also later in the story arc be engulfed with flames.He describes loosing her like loosing a limb(Phantom Limb-the illusion that a limb still exist after it has been amputated).He cannot say goodbye to her and his dreams of her are all he still has but they are disturbing like his emotions.The story of this song creates an image of the girl but also the emotion of loosing her. | |

* 1. I will attempt to describe each song of Pig Destroyer`s Phantom limb individually and as a whole because it`s a themed album.I will mark the song with a number and( * ) to indicate it`s from the album Phantom Limb. Rotten yellow ; begins with a eerie sound sample possibly from a movie,sounds like some one being exorcised as a priest repeats " the body of Christ",or perhaps a Catholic communion in process.Then a little boy or girl whispers; "mommy they`re coming."foreshadowing the brutality of the following 14 tracks. It is important to note that the story of this song is not the beginning of the story of the entire album.This whole album is like a seriously sick movie and this song starts either in a morgue where she already is dead or a hospital where she is about to die from cancer or the 'accident',lets go with the first for now.He describes her when he sees her for the first time when he comes out of his coma.She is dead and she smells of solvent used to cover up the dead burned rotting smell.He says he didn`t even recognized her-"like a painting a masterpiece torn to pieces and set to flame"She was in a serious accident,she got torn and burned.She is starting to decompose - "Her own cells turned on her"He compares her yellow skin with wild flowers in July.Then this is freaky whether you consider the girl to be still alive or dead."She asks me how she looks"she`s concerned about the damage she took."and I tell her that she`s as lovely as the vultures as pretty as the larvae of the fly" what kind of sick man comforts his girl with such a comparison?Those two creatures are creatures that feast on dead flesh.He believes she is still alive even though she isn`t.In this song we not only see the character`s pain but also his slide into insanity.-See Jupiter`s eye the 2nd song. |

This is one of my best Pig Destroyer songs ever.And holy shit that slow doomy groove kicks your face in. This song is like a love letter/suicide note the main character writes in his diary :"Dear everything" Dear diary/my everything ,my past,present and future.(he describes the person to whom this letter is addressed to as his everything. "Today I witness a crucifixion in pink and lavender and gold."He describes a wedding with the theme of those 3 colors.He compares this wedding with a crucifixion because it is not his but the girl he loves`s."I`ve heard people say beauty is in the details"-the people complimented the bride.."...but I don`t think they`ve ever seen you"-No one saw her true beauty like he did.He describes a silly blue stain on his shirt,the one she bought for him(For the wedding or when they were still lovers I don`t know) a painful fact to realize.He compares it to an inflicted wound on the sky.The pain he feels of losing her feels like stars in his belly going supernova(exploding inside him like a compact universe expanding of overwhelming feelings).He feels like a zombie that refuses to live(Powerful description) haunting the junkyards and cutting himself on scraps of her.(See 'junkyard god' as that song describes their relationship,how psychotic she really was and made him into).He then describes how he masturbated to pictures of her at her birthday party one day,thinking that if she read this she would understand that he loves her;this is man who has been reduced to a shallow and sad beggar.They were the only ones he still had.(She must have taken all she owns back).But he feels not only guilty for doing it but for his whole life.everything felt wrong.He is embarrassed of his life so he hopes she would not find him alive with this letter."I love you" (what a coward and manipulator).This is one of those songs that not even a million emo-bands can write |

| This song ends the story of a girl who murders men.Although it is sung by J.R ( a man)It is about a girl.It is sung over a telephone.She sees this guy headless with her in a grave making love.She has overwhelming feelings that she does not exist,like a grave with nothing in it and nothing readable written on the tombstone.She will bury herself with her victim in it.She murdered the gravedigger so that no one will know the truth about her and her victim`s whereabouts.Then suddenly she shows a sign of serious psychotic obsession.She wants to shower in his amber(pee-pee) and bathe in his earth(poo-poo).Some sick shit. :) | |

| Hell,These guys can write some really good songs.This one is really morbid.He describes not only the character and the settings with absolute clarity but also the emotion.I like the way he sings it in first person,It makes it honest and real.I like the way the girl never had a name,but she is that girl in the Slayer jacket.You know?The one we all can relate to.Our first kiss.I first thought a Slayer jacket was a straight jacket.But I think they are talking about the popular metal band Slayer.Probably the most popular band when he was in the 7th grade.That was the year he got his kiss from her.This girl smoked weed with his older sister in the woods behind the arcade.She had hemophilia,maybe because of frequent drug intake I don`t know,but J.R describes it as ; "when you cut her the wound would bleed forever".Did she cut herself?He describes her suicide and the setting as if he was there.Her parents tried to sue the band Slayer as all parents would have probably done.It`s always the music`s fault."They blamed her boyfriend and PCP"Did her parent blame those or did Slayer blame them as a scapegoat?Who was her boyfriend? Him? He goes on and says "...the truth is her eyes had been dead since she was five,she just had`nt disposed of her body" WOW sick.Is he covering up his guilt or is he telling us the truth? | Pig destroyer have a very unique way of writing lyrics to their songs.I can`t think of any other band that can hit the hammer on the nail so accurately by creating vibrant stories/poetry but with such pitch black nihilism,misogynistic references,self-hatred and creepiness that I sometimes wonder whether the writer isn`t perhaps a psychopath or a schizophrenic.I think they have one of the best writers in the world ,ever, in any genre...This song I thin is about how someone can change from beautiful human(fairy) into a violent,sick,manipulating,cold dead creature.And don`t forget the groove at the half-mark of this song.Slayer wished they wrote that groove. | |

Or an American soldier who describes a Vietnamese heroin/crack dealing whore after they had intercourse.The hardship of life`s battle and drugs made her unattractive,her eyes are dead and she smokes a cigarette ,or the cigarettes of human skin might be all the Oral sex she gave other men.The dry semen are payment from her last costumer.Love is her illusion.She isn`t the bad person in this song,the lyricist made it sound that way.The men abusing her are the villains.When ever she would suck,it would suck out of her. | |

| I think there are many explanations.As we know Pig Destroyer writes many thought provoking and emotional songs.Could it be a soldier who returned from war and now sits isolated and half-psychotic in a room once full of live,he longs for the woman`s touch he once loved or lost...A witness,paranoid and fearful for his life hiding in a two bedroom motel room from the mob,which explains bad T.V reception and the refrigerator in a single room.Maybe a man who lives on the brink of madness and self loathing abuse, who`s girlfriend left him,he became a recluse,his attention is fixated on the smallest of details,the sounds of an empty fridge the lack of interest in watching T.V,He will die in this 'tomb' this 'grave'...Perhaps A drug addict detoxing himself and it drives him over the walls.The lyrics I think can be interpreted in many ways by each individual, which makes this song so damn good ( and we`re not even discussing Brian`s drumming and Scott`s guitar work)...I Personally think this song is not about a man ,but a Parakeet named 'Joey',trapped in a life he cannot escape from.It`s owner long dead from a heroin overdose.The Static T.V and fridge drone accompanies him in loneliness.He longs for his master`s care,he could cut 'himself' if he could, to pass the time.The 6 year old girl dancing from joy and innocence on the ceiling is oblivious of the emotional starving of this creature.It`s room is like a gasket and the ceiling is the lid -not the door.By saying this he refuses to escape his impending doom if it was a man but it is a caged bird,the ceiling is the casket lid of his grave.The man and woman arguing might be the little girls parents which is in direct contrast to her innocence.The argument might also be the reason the man`s girlfriend left him if you think that`s what the song is about.But it sounds like a recording from a mental hospital for me. | |
