| The White Stripes – Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground Lyrics | 8 years ago |
| I read somewhere years ago that this song is about his dog. Listen to it again, and think about your dog. It's a good song when you think it's a love song about a woman, but when you know it's about a love even more innocent and pure, it's even better. | |
| The National – Santa Clara Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Santa Clara is a city in Cuba, fairly close to the tip of Florida. Maybe the song is loosely about people illegally leaving Cuba for Florida and the families saying goodbye. | |
| We Were Promised Jetpacks – Conductor Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I believe the lyrics are "you are a fine line" not a fine wine. Makes more sense for a line to point than a wine to point. I figured it out watching a live video of them performing this song. | |
| Elliott Smith – Needle in the Hay Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I always picture brothers in the first verse. The "you" is the singer, to himself, talking about his younger brother. "Your hand on his arm The haystack charm Around your neck" The younger brother looks up to his cooler, older brother who gets into drugs, and the younger brother gets into it, too. The younger brother wears his hand-me-down clothes. Just like many siblings trying to fit in, he's head to toes, a "reaction" to the older brother. "Strung out and thin Calling some friend Trying to cash some check He's acting dumb That's what you've come To expect He's wearing your clothes Head down to toes A reaction to you You say you know what he did But you idiot kid You don't have a clue" Just like any older brother, he sees him as dumb, annoying, clueless. But neither has a clue about what they're really getting into. Again, the "you" in the song is the singer, to himself, possibly reflecting on the past. "Sometimes they just Get caught in the eye You're pulling him through" An older brother trying to look out for a younger brother, but he can't keep him safe from his own influence. The harder he is on the younger brother, the more the younger brother becomes a "reaction" to the older brother. He gets caught in the "eye of scrutiny" and becomes more like the older brother. |
