Spinnerette – Cupid Lyrics 14 years ago
I kind of disagree with you.
It sounds more like she is angry at Cupid for first of all making her fall in love with a jerk, "don't say you aim to please, don't say that you love love". She doesn't believe that Cupid had any intention of being a good guy here, that he has gone against the goodness of love. But then she's also accusing Cupid of not relenting in his arrows, "don't you know that it's over?". She does not love the man anymore, but Cupid keeps shooting his arrows at them. She seems stuck, continually saying she wants to leave here, but Cupid won't let her.

Spinnerette – A Prescription For Mankind Lyrics 14 years ago
I do agree that the song is about religion, but not about a missing loved one.

it starts off with her asking who this ultimate power is: what their guidelines are (should i beg, should i steal) and humanity's purpose (meaning of life). she's also asking how we are to honour this power (kneel and pray, kiss the divide). there is a sense of anger/frustration, but I don't think she's saying fuck religion. it sounds to me she is more frustrated at people's blind faith and obedience from what a book says; frustrated with the amount of groveling and submissive states, all for a kingdom in the sky that may not even exist (is it an ocean away?). then I believe the angel coming down would be Satan being cast from Heaven, and his influence on humanity in the Garden of Eden. he, in a way, imbues us with his traits (up rose the devil, to walk within us all). Satan becomes an inherent part of us, the prescription for mankind. there is a bit of irony in the idea that we humans, with Satan in us, can get into Heaven and dance with the gods... so long as we have faith and kneel before God. The ball and chain is the eternal connection between us and Satan, hence the hell on earth.
