To me it just sounds like someone who had a bad past and can't seem to get the strength to carry on. The "monsters" and "devil on your back" could refer the memories and such. |

I think that what they mean by costume party is that they're trying to hide or "cover" things up, like how at a costume party, people are, well, in costume to hide what they're really like in a way. And the line "And I believe this costume party is over before it gets started" means that they're trying to embrace reality and not pretend about anything. |

I think it's about someone the writer (Alex?) met who really wants to be friends with benefits. At first, she just wants to be coy and play hard to get, but then realizes later that she really does want him/her. But by then, that person is in a relationship, hence the lyric "You found somebody else/And it's tearing me apart". Then she decides to let it all go ("Dont come looking for me), realizing that they were just manipulative. |
