White Lies – Bigger Than Us Lyrics 10 years ago
This is probably way off, but that's OK :)
I've read a lot about Abduction Phenomena. Millions of people claim to have been abducted by aliens. We don't understand exactly what is going on, but there is definitely Something to this phenomena. People thousands of miles apart have described similar details in their experiences, Before the age of the internet... Late Harvard Professor John Mack (RIP) wrote a couple of books about it that I highly recommend.
Are they really aliens from another planet? Or do they live inside the earth and in our oceans? Are they really just "demons" masquerading as aliens? Or is this phenomena something that takes place in the mind of the abductees?
Now, about the song... He mentions someone taking a different route to get home than they normally would. Many abduction accounts I've read begin this way... someone ends up on an isolated "country" road, out in the middle of nowhere. Perhaps the singer was riding shotgun...
He mentions horses crying. Animals often have adverse reactions to paranormal phenomena. If a flying craft came near them, I could imagine they might cry out... Also, the mention of horses reinforces the idea of being out on a country road, out away from the city, where people own horses.
He mentions headlights on the hillside... Then follows up with a perhaps fearful "don't take me this way". UFOs are often confused with headlights on a hillside. Sometimes someone thinks they see a UFO and it ends up being just headlights on a hillside in the distance... And perhaps in this case, the singer thought he was seeing headlights, then it ended up being a flying craft. Or maybe he doesn't like driving on a certain road because the headlights remind him of his terrifying abduction experience, or maybe he is saying "don't take me this way!" because that was the road where the abduction happened,
I agree that there is also relationship problems mixed into the song... It seems like they were driving and having a discussion or argument about her cheating on him, and then "it" happened... They were both abducted. Then later on when they started talking about this crazy thing that happened, and what they were going to do about their relationship issues, he realizes, and tells her, this is bigger than us... The cheating doesn't really matter anymore. It's small potatos compared to what just happened... So, whether romantic or not, they will always be connected by this experience. They will need each other for support because abduction phenomena is almost always a shocking, life changing experience. People go through a lot of feelings. Fear. Depression. Anger. Etc.
I don't need your love, tears, don't want you to hold me... I just want you to pray because this is bigger than us, and only God can save us now... And after it happened he was obsessed with getting home. Where he could feel safe again.
There are a few other lyrics I could interpret at this angle, like he feels like he's breaking up and wanted to stay, means he doesn't know how to cope with what happened, and he wishes he could have stayed in his "normal" life, before this crazy thing happened. Or he just wanted to stay in the car, but was taken, possibly into the craft...
Like I said, probably way off, but that is just what this song makes me think about. I guess you think about what you've studied, and I've studied all types of mysterious topics, everything from the Giza Pyramids and Sphinx, to ghosts and hauntings, to wild theories like Hollow Earth and Breakaway Civilizations and of course Ancient Astronauts/Aliens.

Does It Offend You, Yeah? – Dawn of the Dead Lyrics 14 years ago
Ok here's my initial reaction, I just discovered this band 24 hrs ago along with some other cool bands like mew and miike snow and wombats and decided to start an account here now that I have a good enough phone since mobile browsing is the only way for me personally. (its an HTC Incredible2 BTW, and I would recommend it highly)

My interpretation, this is just what came to mind and the opinions and views below are not to be necessarily taken as the views of the band although it may very well be.

"...like the men who walked before me" he said.
[[his fathers telling him to be like the men who "walked" before him. Walked has a special symbolism here and ill get to that later. In essence he@ telling his son its important to get a degree, career, etc.. conform, be like everyone else. The "system" that's been in place for so many generations]]

The dawn of the dead came toward me, I'm afraid.
[[This young man now finds himself thrust into a world of "zombies". This could have a double meaning. Everyone around him is just plodding along through life like a zombie, half asleep and unaware of the realities of the world we live in. It could also mean he found that everyone wanted to eat his "flesh" like a zombie meaning basically all they cared about was how they could profit off him and they used him]]

You could try again but theyll ignore you, and me
[[You could try to tell people about the important things going on in the world that they are unaware of and how we don't need to treat eachother this way, but they will just ignore you because they are so caught up in the daily hustle and bustle paying bills and watching American idol etc... Also it indicates he has a friend or lover who "gets it", cause he says "you, and me" meaning there are two of them now]]

I want to sit down and say that will do, Im afraid
[[I actually thought this was "I wont sit" but I have an interpretation for both versions... According to my version he is saying that he won't just sit back" when he knows in his heart that people are being used by the system to make a few people rich (banksters, politicians, etc.) And according to your lyric he could be saying that, at this early time in his life he Wanted to just sit down and he was ok with all the greed and injustice because he just wanted to make his father happy initially. Saying I'm afraid at the end was in the context of, "ask I'm afraid that's how I was thinking at that time, however wrong it may have been. Not that he wanted to sit down Because he was afraid.]]

Today I stood and walked away Im never coming back this way
Ive got my things, Im here to stay Ill try to pull the night away (Oh, Ah, Oh, Ah)
If you say so Ill leave home, Ill leave home If you say so Ill leave home, Ill leave home
[[Ok, the day has finally come where he can't take it anymore and he is just gonna quit college or whatever and he declares he will never come back to this immoral way of life again. He is now on a quest to "pull the night away" night meaning darkness, so he wants to take away that darkness and let the truth be revealed from the shadows where it is hiding. He searches for the truth. Also he wants to take the darkness out of the world and make it a better place. The "walked away" and "never coming back this way" symbolizes walking a path in life, and he will never walk this path again. He needs to walk his own path. Live life his own way. He's got his things and he's here to stay in this new life. "if you say so, ill leave home" means he was ready to leave already but he was waiting for his lover or friend to say they would go too. It means two things, they are leaving behind this greedy way of life and they are also physically getting out of town to start a new life. "home" could just mean his hometown or maybe he still lives st home, this could all be transferred to a
16 or 17 year old kid, and not in college but being prepared for it. Also home means his familiar way of life]]

Like the dead that walk before me therein
I cant believe that you ignore me, such a shame.
[[He is speaking directly to the listener, he has been trying to tell you that the whole world is basically behaving like zombies, but much like the zombies he sees all around him, everytime you hear this song the true meaning passes you by, what a shame. If you hadn't been programmed since birth by government sponsored education and media, and had your food water and air poisoned too, you would have your eyes open and notice this kind of stuff. The beginning sounds like a siren... Meaning hey we got a crisis on our hands here!]]

I didnt come here to try to hurt you, you hurt me
[[He is telling you, me, the elites who run the system, everyone, that he didn't come into their world to hurt anyone, or scare them by telling them how messed up the world really is. He was just trying to do right by his dad. But he got hurt and now that wrong must be made right for all who have been victimized by the leaders we trusted. And he's sorry if the truth hurts, but he has been hurt by the system we are all supporting, so he's been through it and processed these feelings so he knows you will be able to handle it too.]]

Ill never sit back and say thatll do, Im afraid.
[[Now he is reminding you that he will never give up in his quest to change things for people. Or according to the posted lyric, his position has reversed and now he refuses to sit and be ok with all this persecution and degradation.]]

Today I stood and walked away Im never coming back this way
Ive got my things, Im here to stay Ill try to pull the night away (Oh, Ah, Oh, Ah)

If you say so Ill leave home, Ill leave home If you say so Ill leave home, Ill leave home, Ill leave home
Today I stood and walked away Im never coming back this way
Ive got my things, Im here to stay Ill try to walk another way (x2) (Oh, Ah, Oh, Ah)
[[Again he wants to walk Another Way... Try a different way of life cause this isn't working. There is plenty enough food and resources that we should all be able to eat for free and have our own house free, or at least the materials and land to build one. Yet we have loads of starving and homeless people. We have doctors with lifesaving knowledge and we got the top medical equipment but people are sick, injured, and dying because they can't afford an operation and the doctor will not save your life unless he gets paid. People are dying in emergency room hallways... There could be enough doctors and fireman and teachers and everything if college wasn't so expensive. Everything.g could be free to everybody. I woukd teach at a university for free in order to contribute to a system like this. Ask yourself this, when you were a kid and you wanted to be an astronaut or a fireman or a vet, were you even thinking about the paycheck you'd be cashing? No you thought it would be cool to go into outter space. You wanted to save people and animals because you cared about their well being. The only reason the system is like this is so 2% of the population can have 50 cars, 15 mansions and castles, 30 or more people dedicated to doing what you say like maids, gardeners, assistants, nannies, chefs, bodyguards, chauffers, helicopter and airplane pilots, etc. NOBODY needs that! Those butler's and cooks should be tending to their own family and pursuing their own dreams and the rich person should just rely on the community when they need help. But they don't want just help, they want the right to be able to say "hey, I'm paying you, so you do exactly as I say or you will lose your job. I own you" thats what money is for, to control you]]

If you say so Ill leave home, Ill leave home
If you say so Ill leave home, Ill leave home, Ill leave home

[[I'll say it for you, "Leave home." Explore areas outside your comfort zone. Life doesn't have to be like this. The more of us that refuse to play by their rules, the faster things will change. Personally I'd rather be homeless than participate in the system any longer. Sleeping under the stars doesn't sound half as bad as slaving away my whole life.]]
