Tori Amos – Sorta Fairytale [Demo] [#] Lyrics 14 years ago
This demo version of the song is so lovely. The piano is just gorgeous. I never noticed that part, but she does have a knack for sliding metaphors like that into her songs ever so eloquently.

Tori Amos – China Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with silentalltheseyears, JackiezStrenght25 and others. A simply beautiful, breezy song; I think it’s about a relationship that has gone wrong. She mentions the distance which China and New York are vastly apart. Even though the couple is physically close together, so close she can hear her significant other breathe, the distance she feels emotionally, is immense.
“Sometimes I think you want me to touch you” refers to points when the author sees signs that her significant other is still in love with her, but there is still something missing as he builds an emotional wall as big as the Great Wall of China, which goes along with the China theme. It shows how strong his emotional wall is and how hard it is to communicate with him.
China also refers to her dishes and the years of wear and tear have created tiny cracks in it; this could also be symbolic of their relationship. On the outside, they may appear to others as having a great marriage, but at a closer look, the cracks are evident in the relationship and the dishes. They try to have a romantic dinner with wine and discussing vacation hot spots. This one person the author has truly loved and saw growing old together isn’t emotionally involved anymore.
“Maybe you got lost in Mexico” could refer to when the partner had an affair or started to be emotionally unavailable at the time. Even though they sit together and discuss, the significant other doesn’t respond or is attentive to her.

It’s amazing she can make that many references in one song!
