| Sara Bareilles – Between the Lines Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Cheating. Very, very clearly cheating. She loved him so dearly, deep down knowing he was cheating, but stayed because she loved him so much. Time to tell me the truth To burden your mouth for what you say No pieces of paper in the way 'Cause I can't continue pretending to choose The opposite sides on which we fall The loving you laters, if at all No right minds could wrong be this many times She's finally given up pretending that he isn't cheating, she's done looking the other way. So she's telling him to tell her what she's known all along. My memory is cruel I'm queen of attention-to-details Defending intentions if he fails Until now, he told me her name It sounded familiar in a way I could have sworn I'd heard him Say it ten thousand times If only I had been listening First part, she replays all the it was so obvious he was cheating, but staying in denial, even going so far as to defend him against other people who told her he was cheating. Second part, he'd heard the girls name mentioned by him casually before. She was hearing it, but not listening. Leave unsaid unspoken Eyes wide shut unopened You and me Always between the lines She doesn't want to know anymore. She should have read between the lines of his behavior to know he was cheating. Everything between them had been said between the lines until then. I thought I was ready to bleed That we'd move from the shadows on the wall And stand in the center of it all Too late, two choices, to stay or to leave Mine was so easy to uncover He'd already left with the other So I learned to listen through silence She thought she was ready to hear the truth. So she chose to confront him. Then she thought she had to chose to stay, or to leave him, but he told her that he was leaving her for the other woman. So in the relationship, she learned how to listen to her instincts. I tell myself All the words he surely meant to say I'll talk until The conversation doesn't stay on "Wait for me, I'm almost ready," When he meant "Let go," To me, this is about the beginning of the relationship. He asked her to wait to get married/for him to commit, but she didn't. She pushed. So he caved. But what he'd really meant back then was for her to let go of him. |

This is my take; I think she was in a relationship that she had outgrown, so she strayed:"Facing the ghosts that decide If the fire inside still burns" and "Open up next to you And my secrets become your truth And the distance between That was sheltering me comes in full view" So she told him about her infidelity. And "Hang my head, break my heart Built from all I have torn apart And my burden to bear Is a love I can't carry anymore" He broke up with her, and she has to live with the guilt of breaking his hear and cheating But because they were together such a long time, of course it still hurts, and she's heartbroken. The chorus: She still loves him, and she wishes they were still together as they were before. And "It hurts to be here I only wanted love from you It hurts to be here What am I gonna do?" She cheated because she didn't feel like he loved her, and it hurting to be around him. Now it hurts because they broke up. |

| This ENTIRE album describes my huge break up and life situation right now. I agree with the general consensus,it's aimed at people who attempt to bring others down at all costs. | |
| Sara Bareilles – Hold My Heart Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Obviously about the end of a relationship. But I think she left him, but still loved him. He blames her, but she knows that it was mutual, she was just the one that pulled the trigger. | |

Though I may be going down I'll take in flame over burning out kurt Cobain suicide letter reference. I think the song is about a huge break up, so she up and leaves, reevaluates her entire life, and starts down a new path. "follow if you want" She doesn't care what her family or friends think about this. They are welcome in her life if they want to be. |

| Sara Bareilles – Gonna Get Over You Lyrics | 14 years ago |

This song has such amazing lyrics. Sara is such a poet. This line is amazing: And I'm not the girl that I intend to be I dare you darling, just you wait and see But this time not for you but just for me To me, it's "I take my part in why this relationship failed. You always wanted me to change, now I will, but I'm living life for me." To me, the whole song is really empowering, but honest. They broke up, and she knows she'll be fine eventually, but she misses him all at the same time. |
