This song is about a girl who is marrying the wrong person, for the wrong reasons.... "breaking up with your breakdowns" ---she is tired of breaking down all the time and has resolved to find her way out of the misery "standing tall in your white gown" ---confidently, she chooses marriage as that escape "you're going nowhere, you're going fast" ---but by not waiting for the right person, she isn't going to get anywhere "you're slowing down but you'll never last" ---shes settling down and it may help her for a while, but the relationship and the relief wont last forever "take your time honey, take your time" ---if she takes her time she can find something that will "it's the wrong dream, with the wrong man" ---she shouldn't be marrying this guy for some sort of escape, that's not why you should want to get married, and the wrong man wont provide it *there is some controversy between whether it is "wrong hand" or "own hand"?...these are my opinions for both* "with a cold gun, in your wrong hand" ---it may seem like shes holds the key to safety and protection by getting married, but if she isn't handling marriage properly then it will end up causing her harm "with a cold gun, in your own hand" ---she has marriage right in front of her and right now it seems safe but once she decides to use it, it will just cause harm "get it right this time, get it off your mind" ---don't make this mistake, don't get married, get rid of the idea that you have to "let the summer rain bring you rest" ---take some time, take a step back, and it will bring you calm and peace because... "and shame and love" ---you will realize the mistake you're making and will be able to find true love and happiness elsewhere "carve your name in a black stone" ---marry this guys and you're carving your own headstone "swear to god we won't let go" ---if she does it they will still be there for her though “if you can't love babe, then you can't hurt” ---a warning that yes, if she doesn’t really love him then she can’t be hurt by him… “we take the good times, with the worst” ---but life is about taking the good with the bad because if you don’t know what misery is then you’ll never be able to understand what true happiness is either “take your time honey, take your time.” ---if she takes her time she will realize all of this and be able to find what she really wants and needs |
