| My interpretation of this song when I initially heard it was that the narrator was cheated on by his girl and he subsequently cannot understand why nor stand it. Underneath the pop melody and the ultra poppy 7th chords, there is definately a tragedy in the way some early beachboys songs depict love or betrayal. The Beatles like to balance darker themes with happier melodies like this one and darker melodies with more use of minor chords and happier lyrics... very bizarre effect but quite well used! | |
