I think it's about a guy who is relentlessly stalking a girl who he fantasizes is actually HIS girl. I mean every whisper of every waking hour I will try to keep my eye on you, like a hurt, lost, and blinded FOOL! Trying to keep up with watching her every move is getting harder. He finally realizes in the end it was just a dream, his fantasy could have never happened in reality. That is what I believe the song is about. Oh, he also realizes the lengths he will go to, and that's when I guess he feels some sense of shame, so he's in a corner, feeling like he's going against his religion and makes confessions about what he's doing. THen he's said too much, or not enough. The girl's got him, and she's making him crazy..... with desire maybe??? |

It's a story about a guy who is relentlessly stalking this girl. going to any lengths, every whisper of every waking hour, trying to keep an eye on her, like a hurt, lost and blinded FOOL! Keeps stalking her, trying to keep up 24/7, he imagines or fantasizes that she is HIS girl. But in the end it was just a dream... it could never have been reality. (heard about the stalking meaning from Stipe, just like "The One I Love" is not a love song, but a mean, cruel song that Stipe didn't even want to record, but went along with the manager. The One he loves is a "Simple prop" to occupy his mind, then he find another "Prop" to occupy his mind. It's a stab in the back song. One of the band members words, not mine!!(I think the blonde w/curly hair). Hey I'm not a kid, I forget things! lol :D |

Stipe is correct, it is not about religion. It is about a guy relentlessly stalking a girl who he fantasizes is HIS girl. Every whisper of every waking hour,choosing my confessions, tryin to keep an eye on you, like a hurt, lost, and blinded FOOL!Trying to keep up wih you (trying to follow her 24/7, but don't know if he can do it) All his fantasies.....(she was his fantasy) were in the end... just a dream, just a dream.(that could never become reality). |
