This song has nothing to do with his father! 'Round here, your grandpa is usually your Papa. Pronounced "pawpaw," just like in the song. These guys aren't even close to being old enough to have a Civil War-era dad. In fact, he's probably talking about his great-grandfather, or even further back. But "great-great grandfather" wouldn't have sounded very good lyrically, would it? |

No, she says it's from an old Chinese(I think) custom of hanging a dead dog around the neck of an adulteress. The dog in the song is both the decaying animal she's saddled with (here's hoping it's a metaphor) and the jerk she's been sleeping with. |
