| Florence + the Machine – Dog Days Are Over Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I have a weird interpretation that stems from my religious upbringing (now rejected for the most part) and the fact that I heard the lyrics for the first time during that whole "rapture on May 21" crap that was going on. The dog days are over, Christians have waited 2000+ years for Christ to return and take "God's children" back to Heaven, in the meantime madness has reigned, including holocausts, wars, persecution, slavery and sickness which Christians attribute to the evil ways of mankind. The rapture signals the end of these "dog days" Happiness it her like a train/bullet The rapture is supposed to be when the children of God are taken up to Heaven, but it also signals the end times, meaning bad news for everyone left behind. When someone enters Heaven they forget anyone they knew who won't be joining them (My Mom will forget she had a daughter if I'm wrong, sweet Christian sentiment, right?) So she's running from the realization, or maybe hoping to avoid it, that she will be happy, but so many people she loves will be in terrible danger and pain (run fast for your mother, father, children, etc) But she won't remember or care. Happiness(leaving Earth to join God) hit her like a bullet, and she fled from it because she realized she doesn't want to survive if it means leaving her love behind. The horses are coming I took to mean the four horsemen of the apocalypse. I haven't really found any part of the lyrics that don't fit. Anyone else? |
