This is one of their most powerful songs. The song is clearly about loss and I feel that it truly captures the stage of grief where you want to be able to cry but you just can't. My favourite aspect of this song is that it's so understated - while the persona is clearly grieving and feeling empty, there is no grandstanding or attention-seeking in this song. To me, that makes it all the more poignant and authentic. |

I think this song is also about the grief that comes with losing such a special person or relationship. In this song, there is a real refusal to let go and move on. The persona of this song knows that they have to be able to 'getaway' in order to heal. However, this would force them to realise that the relationship is truly over which they are not prepared to do. In fact, the persona seems quite determined to stay in a place of emotional pain and grief so they can stay connected to the person they have lost. |
