Foo Fighters – A Matter of Time Lyrics 14 years ago
I think the significant thing here is the part about "doing my time for line after line, when will I learn to sing these crimes to myself". Seems this is a bit of a sarcastic play about doing time in a jail for "singing" about crimes!! I think though, it has a serious undertone. What crimes? And this is pretty accusing!!!

"Prisoners to share a cell with" ... obviously about someone going to jail.
"It's just a matter of time .." well, if you tie this in with the part about crimes and sharing a cell, then this song is about it being just a matter of time before someone goes to jail for crimes they committed.
Interesting song !!!

Foo Fighters – Dear Rosemary Lyrics 14 years ago
I believe it has EVERYTHING to do with Kurt and Courtney. mikevox, I agree with you about the lines and the play on words "you've got a way, got a way"... and "you got away, got away". It's a very clever bit of lyric writing. I also believe the part about "change the way you die" refers to the murder versus suicide verdict. How can you change the way someone dies? By changing the verdict??? You certainly can't rewind time and go back to when they are alive and change things, can you! So, it must be about changing the VERDICT or conclusion as to how they died.

"False starts, young hearts get shattered" to me refers to the false starts at getting the case reopened and examined thoroughly (I believe at one stage it was going to be reopened) and the shattered young hearts are the fans of Kurt's who committed suicide thinking he did so too.

I have read extensively about Kurt's death and Rosemary Carroll played a prominent part in the investigation conducted by PI Tom Grant in the weeks after Kurt died.

For those who don't believe that this could be a reference to Kurt, if you listen to the rest of the entire album, you can pick up further references. Count how many times the word "truth" has featured in Foo Fighters songs. Truth about what??? What is significant to the Foo Fighters that they would want to refer to the truth about, time and time again?

Foo Fighters – Dear Rosemary Lyrics 14 years ago
@ mikevox:
I also hate the "every Foo Fighters song is about Kurt" thing. But I also believe that the Rosemary that Dave is referring to here is indeed Rosemary Carroll, who was Kurt and Courtney's lawyer. She is featured in the case study manual put out by the Private Investigator Tom Grant, who has been saying for 17 years that Kurt was murdered and that he has some pretty damning evidence to back it up.

The interesting thing (in the manual) is that Rosemary agreed with Tom initially that Kurt was murdered but she backed away from co-operating with him. Hence the "you ran away, ran away" part.
I believe the song is very accusing and also pleading at the same time.

In late 1994, Tom wrote a letter. It began, "Dear Rosemary"...

In the song, "Rosemary, you're part of me, you know, you are" I believe means that Rosemary holds the same beliefs as Dave.

"I'm here from now on, but once I'm gone, I'm gone" I believe, is telling Rosemary that she has a chance to come back, but only a small window of opportunity exists for this.

"I couldn't grow just a livin' in the shadow" - Dave couldn't grow professionally living in the shadow of Kurt, and he is giving us a hint that this song is related to Kurt in some way.

If you listen carefully towards the end of the song, you can hear Bob Mould singing "This was no ordinary WIFE" in the last repeat, rather than LIFE. The word "wife" is partly obscured by Dave coming in with "I'm here from now on..". But it's definitely there.

Who's wife? I believe the case study manual answers that question quite clearly.
